Educating the Underprivileged through Technology

Donation protected

Hello!

We are the Chacko Brothers (Jeremy & Jayden). We’re high school and middle school students from Oregon with a big dream to build a computer center for underprivileged kids in Ambattur, India. Read on to hear more about our plans and to see how you can get involved!

The Need
Ambattur is a suburb of Chennai, a city in southern India that is becoming one of the tech capitals of the world. However, since poverty is still an issue in Ambattur, some students from lower-income families don’t have the resources they need to advance in their careers. Most inner-city students in India are at risk of being unable to complete education past high school. Lack of access to technology and support put these kids in compromised positions. Some have to take on labor-intensive work, which limits their ability to perform well in school and broaden their horizons. Studies show that the Gross Enrollment rate for higher education is 24.5%.

The Goal
We believe that everyone has a right to receive an education. In a world that is increasingly dependent on the internet, we believe reliable access to a computer is a key part of that education. Job opportunities are plenty in an industrialized city like Chennai, where the tech industry is booming. We want to make sure high school students from poorer families in Ambattur have access to the opportunities that are available to their peers from more privileged families. Ultimately, our goal is to give inner-city students in Ambattur an opportunity to seek out the careers of their dreams.

The Plan
Our plan is to set up a computer center for underprivileged high school students in Ambattur, which would help them sharpen their technical skills and spoken English. The goal is to focus on a dozen high school students in grades 9 through 12. To achieve this, we have partnered with Mr. Williams Abraham, a social worker with an education/technical background who works among the inner city high school students in Chennai.

Our Story
We are Jeremy and Jayden, two high schoolers from Oregon who want to make a difference in the world. India has a special place in our hearts — we come from an Indian immigrant family. Our parents and grandparents have told us about the hardships they endured and the difficulties faced by children growing up in underserved areas.

We feel very privileged to be growing up in the U.S., with amazing educational opportunities that many children around the world don’t have. Our lives are enriched with music, science videos, engineering challenges, and math training— all of which we access through computers.

We recognize that many children around the world don’t have access to the same facilities that we have. We believe we have the ability to use the resources available to us to help others.

How You Can Help!
You can help us by praying for this cause. You could also support this project with a free will donation.

100% of the funds raised will support the computer center and provide students with the opportunities that they rightfully deserve.

Thank you in advance for your support. Please contact us via email ([email redacted]) if you have any questions about our project.

We’ll be posting updates about the project to this Go Fund Me page -- so stay tuned as we turn our big dream into a reality!
