Habitat for Hounds Doghouses

$2,980 of $5,000 goal

Habitat for Hounds gives dogs without proper shelter an insulated cozy dog house.  Habitat for Hounds was featured in Best Friends Magazine Jan/February 2014 edition. See the article in the Updates.

Since it began Habitat for Hounds has provided houses for 205+ dogs!  <--Updated to include 30+ new houses since 2017.

Brenda Nash manages the details and I help out. Until now we have raised money via a "tip jar" at Rabun Animal Hospital, but times are tough and few in this rural area have extra cash to donate. Winter is always tough. Demand for houses goes up and donations go down due to holiday spending.

Any donation will go 100% to materials. Neither Brenda or I get any payment.  Donations can also be made via PayPal using my email address below or checks can be send directly to me via my postal address below. Make checks payable to Habitat for Hounds.

About the Houses
All six sides are double walled and have fiberglass insulation. The roof is removable for easy cleaning or replacement of bedding. The door has a special cover to prevent rain from getting in.
A large house for a Lab or German Shepard sized dog costs $150 in materials.

Meet Hose, Izzy's Friend. Hose is a real sweetie. He is one of those dogs you could rub forever and it is not enough. He received his new Habitat house Saturday. The house he had does not have a back wall at all, so he will be forever warm and dry from now on thanks to our donors supporting Habitat.

Meet Izzy!!! Izzy received her new house today and she was a real sweetheart. Really liked belly rubs. There is another dog with Izzy who has a house, but it is not insulated or have a rain-proof door. I hope to deliver a house on Monday or Tuesday for Izzy's friend.

The weather is improving (getting warmer) and that is a good thing. This winter saw our highest demand for houses because more and more people are learning about Habitat for Hounds. I was behind all winter so I plan to build houses all summer so I have an inventory going into next winter. To our donors I want to say thank you for your continued support.

Meet Rambo and Missy! They are the remaining two Beagles that were in a wooden shed. As soon as I placed the house Rambo went in and would not come out. He was fascinated by the carpet door flap...I bet it will be tore up by the end or the day. Missy was the sweetest thing. She could not get enough loveup! The weather has turned beautiful here with a high today of 70 degrees and sunny!! All the Beagles were laying outside in their straw piles provided by Habitat when I drove by later. We fill the house with straw and the leftovers go just outside the door so they have something soft to lay on.
As always I want to thank our donors who make this all possible!!!

I delivered the 4th small house to owners of , Buford Roscoe, Bo and Bentley. Unfortunately, the owners had a medical emergency and were not there, but there son was. I set it up so all they have to do is move a Beagle out of the shed to the house. I will check back tomorrow.

I was able to get a good picture of Roscoe...note he has already tore off half his door cover!
