Jeffrey McCann - Paying it forward

It was a beautiful summer day on The Lake of the Ozarks the morning of August 27th, 2016. Jeff McCann was fulfilling one of his life-long dreams by running his 22’ Donzi, “The Mailman,” in the LOTO Shoot-out, otherwise known as the Super Bowl of powerboat events. Little did he know, he would meet an angel on the water that particular day.
Jeff was involved in a major boat crash that left him severely injured and unresponsive while face-down in the water. A state trooper by the name of David Echternach was the first to respond to the accident and put his own life at risk in order to save Jeff’s. His heroism, bravery, and quick response is the reason Jeff is still with us on this earth today.
There have been countless requests and suggestions regarding a fundraiser. Jeff and Keri, after the last request, decided this would be a good way to pay it forward to our dear friend and hero, Cpl. Echternacht. When They asked “Echey” if he had a non profit that we could partner with, he did not hesitate with the mention of a non-profit organization known as “The MASTERS” (The Missouri Association of State Troopers Emergency Relief Society). “The MASTERS” was formed in 1979 for the purpose of establishing an entirely voluntary benevolent fund for the financial aid of a trooper’s immediate surviving family member and children if he or she is killed in the line of duty. Directors of “The MASTERS” from that area take the trooper’s family under their protective guidance and provide financial assistance. Jeff and his wife, Keri, feel that this would be the perfect way to recompense those who protected and guided Jeff during and after his accident.
The McCanns would like to thank each and every one of you for the outpouring of love, support, and friendship during what could have been a very tragic event. We hope to raise enough funds to contribute a substantial donation to “The MASTERS” as well as the non-profit organization started by the McCann’s to raise money for various non profits in our community. The next local fundraiser will be The Lookout Shootout Poker Run here in Morehead City. Thank you for your support.
