East Anchorage HS Piano Acquisition
Donation protected
East Anchorage HS, a Title 1 school and recognized as the most diverse public high school in the nation, is requesting partial funding from a "gofundme" account in order to assist with the acquisition of a new grand piano. Currently we have a 1961 Baldwin piano that needs significant repairs which would still leave us with an instrument that is 56 years old, well over the average 40 years life span of a piano. Classic Pianos, partnering with East HS, has provided us with a new 7 foot Yamaha Grand Piano at a very reduced price. In addition to grants, school fundraisers, and individual donors, we are seeking to raise $2,000 through a gofundme account.
East High holds a unique position in Alaska. With some 2,200 students, we are the largest high school in the state. We are proud to be a three-time Grammy Signature Schools Enterprise Award recipient. Although we serve students, families, and our local community, we also provide a critical educational performance space for statewide conferences such the All-State Music Festival, and the State Solo and Ensemble Command Performances. These professional organizations serve students, parents, and educators from communities as far reaching as Barrow and Unalaska. Additionally, our 673-seat auditorium is in high demand by other schools and community groups throughout the year for events including concerts, graduations, and ceremonies. A fine grand piano, one that is ideally a performance caliber instrument and not substandard in need of ongoing critical maintenance, will support and develop these partnerships.
