Sustainable Water/Wastewater System

$275 of $1.0M goal

Raised by 2 people in 31 months
Since the early 1980's, while heading my previous companies, AlasCan and Equaris, I have designed, patented, manufactured, installed, and serviced over 100 proven blackwater-composting and aerobic greywater-separation treatment systems.  You will find them throughout Alaska's western coastal Eskimo Bush villages and as far south as a remote island off the coast of Belize.

My 'Separation' plumbing systems start with an ultra-ultra low flushing toilet, which uses drastically less water for each flush (.2 of a gallon of water per flush).

The “Toilet to Tap” concept is completely unacceptable to most people; therefore, the blackwater (fecal matter, urine and kitchen garbage disposal) is plumbed to keep it separate from the greywater (showers, laundry, dishwasher, kitchen and bathroom sinks).

Next, I have learned to successfully convert the composted blackwater, or RESOURCE, into a liquid agricultural fertilizer for non-edible agriculture.  Worms thrive on the blackwater organic matter in my developed compost tank and their excrement (castings) is truly Mother Nature's fertilizer.  Castings have long been recognized by the horticultural world for their superiority as a fertilizer.  The volume exiting the tank is reduced drastically through the composting/pasteurizing process (90% of that volume is naturally and aerobically converted into carbon dioxide and water vapor and vented odorlessly) so that emptying occurs rarely.

The greywater is separately treated aerobically, processed further utilizing filtration, ozone and reverse osmosis treatment, and is then stored for immediate and/or long-term use.

Do you see what this means?  Sewers, septic systems and piped-in water will be a thing of the past.  Each home, business, complex, mall, and building will be self-sustaining, each entity taking care of itself with its own closed-loop, zero-discharging technologies.  What could be greener?

Each system will be monitored and controlled off-site by the computer via the internet, and the locally trained service personal (America's Veterans) will be capable of addressing any maintenance problems before the customer experiences any disruption in service.

Monthly billing will be based upon the amount of water that was treated and converted into potable/drinking quality.  Gone would be the bills for those water-consuming, environmental-polluting sewer or septic systems.  Nor will we miss the chemically-inundated water currently being piped in to us through leaking and deteriorating systems weaving their way underground.

I served in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant, and in 1969, after serving my officer commitment, I was honorably discharged as a 30% Disabled American Veteran. Strong ties to that time led me to form a 501(c) 3, known as the Human Endeavors Foundation (Tax ID 47-1708544).

The first component of the Foundation's Plan of Action will enable me to put all of my Human Endeavors' Technologies into one 'Mobile Deployment Trailer' (MDT) on wheels, which will easily roll into and out of a Conex shipping container for demonstrations in the Americas and also international locations.

Not only will it serve as an all-inclusive demonstration prototype of the Human Endeavors technologies, but  it will also exhibit how necessary and appropriate this technology will be for disaster relief needs anywhere in the world, especially for Third World applications.

This MDT will contain one each of the following:
          - ultra-ultra low-flushing toilet
          - shower
          - washer and dryer
          - sink
          - composting tank with happily agitating Recycling Worms
          - Greywater Treatment and Recycling System
          - computer with internet-monitoring connection

It will be the only trailer of its kind, not only treating and converting the toilet RESOURCES onsite, but also simultaneously treating, filtering, and recycling onsite, 95% of the greywater into drinking quality water.

Its efficiency and operation will be monitored from anywhere via the internet.  Additional sensors and features can also be added to the monitoring system to include, security, fire, police, Smart House Controls, etc.

As R. Buckminister Fuller stated, "Knowledge is Wealth" and that is what I am moved to share.  I must pass this knowledge on so that others, namely veterans, can benefit from what I have learned over the past 50 years.

This technology of alternative water and wastewater treatment is unique in that it has actually achieved success where others' have failed.  I want to teach our veterans how to bring this much-needed success to the planet.

Properties, including those foreclosed on, can be deemed unsaleable due to various water supply and wastewater treatment problems, and are often priced under market value.  My second Plan of Action is to purchase a distressed single-family property with those very problems and, by applying my water technologies to it, remove the issue.  The house will be totally green with the further installation of solar, geothermal, radiant heating and cooling.

Once retrofitted and certified for occupancy, this facility will serve as the headquarters to train and educate more veterans in these sustainable, job-creating technologies.  The vets then can help find additional properties, retrofit them and, together, we can offer those retrofitted, sustainable properties back to more veterans who need affordable housing, which they could then finance utilizing their GI Bill.

This Human Endeavors’ project in education, job creation and affordable housing will be a win-win situation for America's veterans.  The mortgage industry will also benefit because properties that previously weren't salable would now be with my systems.

My goal is to replicate this Plan of Action in every state in the US and to eventually go international by duplicating the same mentality and attitude of helping others that is applied by the Peace Corp.  Every country is in need of sustainable housing, water and sanitation, and Human Endeavors has the experience, knowledge and technologies to provide just that for everyone.

Wars over water exist and the future supply of water is questionable, while quality also diminishes.  Increased population, environmental pollution and the current methodologies of treatment are voraciously consuming our clean water supply.  Most exploitive is the use of valuable clean water just to remove blackwater to an off-site location.

It is an unforgivable waste that will be remedied with my complete composting and greywater treatment system, but first my plan is to display it in the MDT project, designed to include all of the aforementioned components, installed and operational.

My attempts to help humanity with my water and wastewater treatment have been continually thwarted by the engineering, academic and regulatory communities.  Despite the fact that I have successfully developed and proven that my technology is what the world is searching for, they fear that their lack of knowledge in this new field might jeopardize their jobs.  They fear the enormity of making each building self-sustaining and they fear being the ones to change the status quo.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

This technology is not a threat to existing professional industries, but it is an additional means of potential income.  With the invention of the automobile, the horse and buggy blacksmith industry quickly adapted their capabilities to include that of mechanic.  The buggy whip manufacturers adapted their upholstery shop, beyond seats and interiors for the horseless carriage, to include the automobile's seat and interior needs. That same conversion will occur to those tending Mother Nature's methodologies of composting and aerobic conversion to recyclable resources.

I realize that my technologies represent a huge paradigm shift in attitude over the treatment of our water and wastewater.  However, your funding will help provide a visual proof that it is possible to make that shift from a "Consumptive to a Productive" society.  Wastewater Separation and Treatment Technology are tools and not a threat to the status-quo.  Mindsets can be re-directed.  Fears can be overcome with actual performance and the availability and reality of an operating mobile system!

A new video is forthcoming but, in the interim, please research the following internet resources, which explain my history and my company's technological accomplishments.
