Help Nube with his vet bills

2014 has not been a great year for the big, fluffy, two-year old cat we call Nube. His owners, for reasons beyond their control, had to leave the country in the spring and are currently living in Spain. They are unable to return next year, and so they decided that instead of giving him up for adoption, they would ask a friend to care for him until they return.

He was a very nervous cat when he was moved, and hid from everyone for quite a few days. Eventually, he remembered what a wonderful, friendly cat he is, and since then, has been sitting on laps, leaving fur on everyone as tokens of his love, and trying to eat everyone else’s dinner for them.

But a couple of weeks back, something started to seem wrong. Nube began to urinate in places he shouldn’t, even though he is normally a very well-behaved cat when it comes to using the toilet. Then, he kept squatting on things, trying to urinate but not succeeding. A trip to the vets revealed he had a Feline Lower Urinary Tract Infection. After a day of waiting for him to urinate, with him not eating or drinking and becoming increasingly lethargic, another trip to the vets was needed... Nube was taken into the veterinary hospital and received emergency treatment to prevent what would have a fatal case of kidney damage.

Thanks to some wonderfully skilled vets, who worked late into the night to save him, Nube was brought back from the brink. He was eventually discharged from hospital with three different kinds of medication, now thankfully down to two.

The total cost of Nube’s emergency treatment, including the checkups, hospital care, and his medicines, came to £2000. We've had to pay for Nube's care ourselves out of what would have been our University savings as Nubes owners are trapped in foreign climes without the means of raising funds for him.
