Pop Up Restaurant for Homeless
We are also expanding the scope of this event moving more toward a "Day of Service" for the Homeless. We are doing this by having on hand a number of both City and Outreach Orginazations, covering a wide range of services, to meet the needs of our Guests.
I need your help!!!
My goal is to raise 20k in 20 days.
Why do I need to do this????
The answer is simple; it's to make someone smile. Actually, it's to make 150 "someones" smile. 150 of our fellow (Homeless) Citizens to be exact.
You see, on Feburary 28th 2016, I want to create a pop up restuatant here in the City, and for one night, for just a few hours, remind "our customers" that they are not invisible - no matter how many people walk past them during rush hour. I want to reinstill in them the faith in humanity that sleeping on a steam grate has so brutally taken from them. But mostly, I want to give them a reason to smile.
Now here is where I'm delusional.
I genuinely believe that this night will change someone's life. I know 149 people are going to walk away from this event full, warm and happy. But I also believe, that ONE person will walk away from this night with a new found sense of hope. And maybe, just maybe that hope will build and allow this person to take the first step to getting back on thier feet.
Am I wrong? Maybe.
Am I crazy? Totally. But I'd rather try and be wrong, then sit here and hope the problem just goes away....
PS: We are hoping not to have this issue but a plan is being developed as to what will happen to the funds if the goal is not reached.
Love his reply to Broad Street which is an awesome staple for the homeless in PHL who basically say his intentions are good but it's a waste of resources ... They can create meals for $2. Per .... This is his reply "There's really no way to justify this. But there's also no wrong way to help a person. My goal is to give somebody hope, and if we feed 150 people and just one person walks away with a sense of hope he can build on, that $20,000 is absolutely worth it." .... I agree with him the drudgery of 2$ meals and constant homelessness to be broken up by a dignified celebration of life and hope is well worth it!
This is all and good, I don't mean to be a debbie downer and I am definitely not a hater I have a non profit organization helping the homeless with hot meals clothing hygiene products medical products and most of all fellowship, I just think something more long term should be done then a nice one night out dinner could do something more with this then a one-time dinner I
I donated but I also wanted to know if volunteers were needed.
I disagree with the criticism that one night of 'gala' treatment is a waste of $/time. Creating dreams that can last a lifetime...is never a waste. That is the entire premise of Disney Films. BEAUTY, KINDNESS, HOPE. Cinderella in rags, then at the ball, and discovered to be a true princess at heart. Presto...life changes. It does happen in life. You never know what can be sparked by a night like this. My guess is A LOT! People need dreams and hope often more than food. Someone truly caring to make a special evening can pull someone in pain forward. Outstanding idea!
