Halsie Peek's Cancer Fund

My name is Halsie Peek and I am a 22 year old who was raised in the deep depths of a farm town. Since I was a little girl I dreamed of becoming a nurse who would care, love and support people who were going through the toughest days of their lives. After graduating from Linfield College School of Nursing, I was delighted to accept an offer to work at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in my dream department- Surgical Oncology.

As my job began I was getting the opportunity to nurture and care for patients who were being diagnosed left and right with end stage cancers and new diagnoses- and this was the career that I was thriving in.

However, just thirty days after beginning my new job I was stunned by the diagnosis I received… I was informed that the tumors I found in my body were in fact Stage 3 Hodgkins Lymphoma. After seeing a couple oncologists there was no doubt that I would have to begin treatment right away. But before treatment would begin there was a decision to be made about my future ability to be fertile. So before chemo began I took the necessary steps to begin egg vitrification (egg freezing).

Unfortunately, my cancer diagnosis has caused me to take a medical leave from working as the physical burdens of a nursing job would be very difficult to manage while going through 6 months of chemotherapy treatment. The reason I have created a GoFundMe page is this diagnosis has become a huge challenge to me financially. With just graduating from school, and not having much time to save up before being diagnosed, I have been faced with an accelerating amount of debt and medical bills. I am determined to find a way to cover the overall costs of this treatment and living expenses until I am strong enough to return to work and support myself.

You can't always control the negative things in life that happen, but you can always be in control of your reaction to those negative things. My faith has never been stronger and I am nothing but optimistic that I will be a survivor.  Although this is a major obstacle in my life and at my age, I will not let it dictate the outcome of my dreams and goals.  Any donation you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
