On March 25, at 8:30pm, Teresa passed away peacefully in her hospice room. She had been there for six days. But Teresa's battle began much earlier than that, in 2013, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After radiation and chemo, remission came. It was short lived, as the cancer returned in her bones to be cryogenically frozen. We rejoiced only briefly as news came that the cancer had spread yet again. Teresa fought a long and tough battle. But the actual cancer was not even the worst of it. She was continually plagued with financial distress--worrying day to day whether she could afford to pay for the treatments to save her life. And if she did pay for them, only to lose all she had, what kind of life was that to save? She struggled with a daily battle to make ends meet....often failing.
The whole that was dug for Jamie and Teresa is a deep one. There are a lot of moving parts when you have two business owners working off one income, somehow considered too high for public assistance. Teresa and Jamie have struggled, kicking and scratching, for EVERYTHING basic plus Teresa's treatments and medications, for too long. Last year, they cashed in their life insurance to save their home. Why? Why would someone with cancer cash in their life insurance? Because she honestly believed she was going to come of it. She honestly thought she and Jamie could retire when the fight was over...and she wanted them to have a home to retire into.
But Teresa did not know that her life would end just one year later. Left with no money, hundreds of thousands in medical bills, and two companies to handle--Jamie and his children are in need of assistance to pay her funeral costs. It's not about needing a tsunami of financial assistance...a few rain drops at a time have the power to create a flood when out together. Even the smallest donation is powerful. Thank you so much for your time, love, and support during this difficult time.
