A Water Well for Pastor Peter

Pastor Peter Mugabi, his wife Rose, and their children live in a small village near Mbalala, Uganda, about 45 minutes west of Kampala. They’ve lived here since 2012. Their community of just under 3000 residents is served by one water source – a small stream that emanates from a swamp, which is adjacent to industries that empty their waste into it.
This water source is far away and it is not clean.
As if that were not hazardous enough, the women and children walk very long distances to fetch water and in most cases the children go late in the evenings to avoid the hot sun or at night after school has let out. Rose Mugabi shared with me how her young daughter ‘almost got defiled’ (raped) on the way to this well.
After consulting with Rose for about a year, I decided it was time to act: this village needs a deep-water well and they need it now. A well drilling company was located in Kampala. The company is legally registered with the Uganda’s Ministry of Water and Environment and it has been in existence for nine years. They have a record of having worked with the local government, national water and sewerage cooperation, World Vision, and other Non-government organizations.
The company came out to the site and provided an itemized quotation for a deep water well, with a solar attachment that can pump water to a reservoir tank.
The total cost: $8,285.71 (US)
