Dwight's Mission

Donation protected
On June 30, tragedy struck our family as our sweet and playful 1 year old rescue greyhound bolted through our closed gate in a matter of seconds while in a state of total panic.  He was hit by a car.  His panic was triggered by the illegal use of fireworks, shot off at an illegal time and location.

His story has gone viral, impacting people around the world who have had similar tragic stories involving their pets and fireworks.  We have attached one of several news pieces to explain the details of Dwight's accident.

The outpouring of support has been overwhelming, and has kept our spirits afloat during Dwight's critical care.

After long and careful consideration by our family, and because his medical bills will reach approximately $13,000, we have decided to accept the support offered by so many kind people, although we wish we didn't need to.

However, there are two caveats.

We are going to allocate any funds we receive over and above Dwight's medical costs to what we what we are calling "Dwight's Mission".  These funds will be earmarked for use by Serenity Animal Hospital (Macomb County) and Oakland Veterinary Services (Oakland County) to pay for the office visit and prescription medication for animals to reduce their distress around these holiday fireworks, and specifically for pet owners who have financial need.  We absolutely want to prevent as many animals as possible from experiencing what Dwight experienced.   Further, although initial indication is that seeking legal recourse in Dwight's case may be difficult, if we are able to successfully receive financial repayment from the individual(s) responsible, 100%  of the GoFundMe donations will be earmarked for Dwight's Mission.

As a sidenote, because this issue has become a crisis worldwide based on literally tens of thousands of messages we have received, we urge people moved by what happened to Dwight to use his story and his photos to set up a similar fund near you and in conjunction with local vet clinics  who have their own emergency slush fund and will allow you to allocate what you raise to Dwight's Mission.  There is absolutely no doubt that the direction of firework use today is creating a crisis for animals and humans everywhere.

We are moved beyond words from the humanity shown to us during this time, and we are committed to make something good come from Dwight's story.

We will use this site to give updates on our sweet little boy.
