Duncan, Kim, & cats need new home.

On Saturday, December 31, Kim (my stepson Duncan's girlfriend) was taking an afternoon nap while Duncan was at work.  She woke up to find her back porch in flames. Their entire apartment building was on fire. She grabbed one cat, Stimpy, and put him in a carrying case. The second cat, Janine, hid under the bed and would not come out. Kim would not leave her...until the fire fighters ordered her out. She ran crying (with one cat) to Duncan's place of work to tell him their home was on fire and one cat was missing. They called us and we came rushing over. Kim's parents jumped in their car and headed down from New Hampshire.

D&K got as close as they could to their building and saw that the third floor was the main site of the blaze. Their place was on the second floor and they began to have hope about sweet little Janine.

 Once the fire trucks began to leave, Duncan and Kim asked to be let in to find her. They were not allowed, but a fire fighter agreed to search for the cat. Then, just like in a movie, he came out of the rubble with the cat wrapped up in his coat, little head peaking out. Thank you, thank you, brave and kind fire fighters of Boston.



The good news, which is very good indeed: Our beloved humans and their beloved cats are unharmed and living with us. 



The bad news: Their home and most of its contents are destroyed. Everything is soaked and/or smoke-damaged. The building is condemned. 



Duncan works at a recording studio that is just taking off, so the pay is not great. Kim recently left her 5+ year job at the Mass College of Art IT department and is interviewing for new IT jobs but nothing is solid yet. 

They need a new home and contents for that home. Furniture, equipment, electronics, clothing are needed, but the most important thing is a place to live so they can get their lives back on solid ground. They are following every lead but as you may know, real estate here in Boston is astronomical and many months' rent is often required up front.



Both families are totally willing to help in whatever ways we can, but many of you have been good enough to ask how you can help...and this is how! The $$ is important, but so is the love and support of community.
