Welcome! Design Tech High School’s (d.tech) Robotics Team is a student led organization that has joined the FIRST Ⓡ Robotics Competition. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics is an organization devoted to inspiring youth in the fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. For more information about FIRST, explore their website: http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc

WHO ARE WE?
Our team name is BREAD which stands for Breakthrough Robotics Engineering And Design.  Our team includes students and parent mentors supporting us with a website, art design, photography, food, and more.  Our group consists of approximately 30 students (sophomores and freshmen) who joined to gain first hand knowledge in driving a project from start to finish. We will gain hands-on experience about building, coding, and designing.  In the process, we will develop and master collaboration, self-discipline, leadership, business, public speaking, and communication skills. We're fortunate to have volunteer technical mentors: mechanical engineers, software engineers, and architects. The opportunity to partner with these professionals benefits us immeasurably.  We strive to be a solid contestant in competition, be considered for the rookie award, and aspire to attend the World Championships.

COMPETITION SEASON
BREAD will be competing as rookie team in the FIRST Robotics organization on April 6-9, 2016.  Starting January 9 to February 19, our team will be constructing our robot. This is a critical period where we learn and develop many new engineering and design skills.  In preparation for the build season and the competition, we are seeking financial support now to raise a minimum of $30,000. The funds will go toward purchasing materials for the robot, tools & equipments, team shirts, travel expenses, and registration fees. Your financial donation through this website is considered TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Please donate now to help us reach our goals.

Thank you for investing in our future.

COMPETITION
From April 7-9, B.R.E.A.D. competed in the Silicon Valley Regional at San Jose State University. The first day of competition was a practice day for all teams to gain experience with the field and other teams, as well as test different strategies. Early the next morning was the opening ceremony when teams from Turkey and China proudly sang their national anthems and a team member from Team 5677, the Subatomic Smarticles, beautifully sang a capella the United State’s anthem.
Over the day and a half of qualification matches, we charted 5 wins and 3 losses and ended in 15th place out of the 64 teams. We were selected by teams 192 (Gunn High, Palo Alto) and 2489 (from Fremont) to join their alliance in the playoffs. Although we did not make it past quarterfinals, we were proud to have been chosen.
After the final match of the day, the awards ceremony began. We were so thankful for teams who helped guide us on our journey and also award winners. Team 1868, Space Cookies, was awarded the Entrepreneurship Award and Team 1967, The Janksters, won the Team Spirit Award. The Nueva School’s Team 4904, Bot-Provoking, received the Innovation in Control Award. There was one award that we spent all season aiming for and that was the Rookie All-Star Award. This is given to the the rookie team that exemplifies “a young but strong partnership effort, as well as implementing the mission of FIRST to inspire students to learn more about science and technology.”
Thank you so much for your support, and hopefully your continued support, for the 2016 Silicon Valley Regional Rookie All-Star Award winner, Design Tech High School’s robotics team, B.R.E.A.D.!!!!
