The hockey community is shocked to hear of Matt Thurber’s unexpected passing. Having played for the Omaha Lancers, Wisconsin Badgers, Northern Michigan Wildcats, Bakersfield Condors, and coached Omaha youth hockey, Matt has touched the lives of thousands. We are calling on those he touched to give a little back for a player that gave so much of himself to everyone he interacted with.
Matt leaves behind a wife Lizz and a 1-year old daughter, Sylvie Rae. Our goal is to create an education fund for Sylvie, by asking people to simply give $10 for #10. Such a small donation, much like a small act of kindness, may not seem like much, but when you add them all up, they can make a big difference. So, please donate $10 (or more, if you like) to show Matt’s daughter how much her father, and all of his kindness, was appreciated by the hockey community.
All proceeds generated will be put into an account specifically earmarked to fund Sylvie’s future education.
This campaign is being managed by the Omaha Lancers Foundation (a registered 501(C)(3) organization), the non-profit branch of the Omaha Lancers hockey team. Matt played for the Lancers for three years and remained an active alumni and member of the Omaha hockey community. Withdrawals of funds will be made by a representative of the Omaha Lancers Foundation and held in the foundation's bank account until the conclusion of the campaign. Upon conclusion, all funds generated will be transferred to an account that will be specifically set up to pay for Sylvie's education expenses. The exact nature of the account is still to be determined.
