Help Met Get to NADTA Conference
Donation protected
In July, I suffered a minor concussion and had several weeks of limited mobility and ability to work, which gave me plenty of time to think. I realized that working three part-time jobs is not sustainable, and that if I am going to be self-employeed anyway, I ought to be using the skills I developed through my undergraduate and graduate work in theatre and performance.
I decided to join the North Amercian Drama Therapy Association (NADTA) in order to complete the alternate training program to become certified as a Registered Drama Therapist.
I need to attend the NADTA annual conference in October for several reasons. There I will meet with the Board Certified Trainer who will be walking me through my alternative training path face-to-face so we can complete the paperwork, attend a workshop which will count toward my drama therapy-specific credit hours, and begin networking in the field so that I can begin the work of translating my skills into a career.
There is a possibility of partial funding for the conference, but because I came to my realization late in the summer, I missed the deadline. So far, I have spent $1300 out of pocket (aka credit card) for registration fees, travel expenses, and hotel reservation (even with a roommate to split the costs).
This does not account for food, unexpected costs, or the tuition to register in a 12-week psychology course at ACC starting at the end of September.
I realize it is my choice to begin on this path, and I will have to spread out my training in a manner which I am financially able to sustain.
But since I had enough time to register for the conference this year, I have decided to jump rather than waiting another year to begin this process.
After 18-months of underemployment, I am in a somewhat precarious financial position. As I am currently in deferment for my undergraduate student loans, I am hesitant to take out more.
If you feel inclined to assist, it would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to pay back with services in kind in the future, using the skills I will be learning in this process.
