The Truth About Drugs
Drugs in our society are becoming more and more rampant, they are also being made stronger and stronger where one little pill according to the CBC news article posted on Mar 25, 2015 “Fentanyl is 15 to 20 times more powerful than heroin.” According to that same article this was linked to 120 deaths in Alberta in 2014.
“There are very costly side effects to community and our expensive institutions, police and hospitals, that we could reduce if we invested money in preventative programs like proper housing,” said McKeen City Councilor stated in interview on Jan 16, 2016 in the Edmonton Sun. These prevention measures need to go deeper then this. The best prevention is education. This is what the Drug Free World Alberta Chapter in partnership with Drug Free Edmonton Alliance is gearing up to do.
Drugs are at the root of many crimes and criminal activities. Our police services are overtaxed and do not have the dollars or man power to put into all services but this is our city and we have a responsibility to do our part in changing this here in Edmonton.
We often hear that it takes a village to raise a child; we all bring something different and important to the raising of our children. The Drug Free World Alberta Chapter will be working with schools and other groups to present information and understanding to students of all ages. Education is the best prevention. If we educate our children on the true effects of drugs they will be empowered to make an informed choice, which will have a positive impact on themselves and the people around them.
We are a non profit organization that relies on donations from community members that want to make a difference in the lives of others around them. Please help us arm our children with the facts and donate today.
