To observe the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s passing the live stage event “Towards the Mountaintop: Commemorating Dr. King” is taking place in Downtown L.A. shortly before the 55th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. This play with music is being presented at the end of the Left Coast Forum ( www.leftcoastforum.org/) at:

August 26, 2018 3:00 p.m.
Los Angeles Trade-Technical College
400 W. Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90015.

“Towards the Mountaintop” pays homage to Rev. King’s visionary legacy as a champion of: Black, Civil and Human Rights; Labor; and Peace. Various actors and activists will re-enact Dr. King and other real life equal rights activists. Musicians will provide Negro Spirituals and gospel music plus anti-Vietnam War rock songs.

Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucy Stone, Julia Ward Howe, Ida B. Wells, Victoria Woodhull, Mary Ovington, Dorothy Day; labor activists Joe Hill; Civil Rights workers Cheney, Goodman and Schwerner, Rosa Parks, Fannie Lou Hamer, Coretta Scott King; peace activists Tom Hayden, Dave Dellinger, Pete Seeger; Maya
Angelou, Angela Davis, Stokely Carmichael, Malcolm X, etc.

So far, on a schedule permitting basis, re-enactors for the Rev. King Commemoration include: ED ASNER, who has won more Primetime Emmy Awards than any other male actor, will portray the Reconstruction Era Radical Republican Congressman Thaddeus Stevens and President Harry S. Truman in his White House confrontation with Paul Robeson. K.B. SOLOMON plays singer/actor/activist Robeson.

GERALD RIVERS depicts Dr. King; BEN GUILLORY plays W.E.B. Du Bois; IAN RUSKIN  as 1776 Patriot Tom Paine;  activist HARVEY WASSERMAN is Socialist Party presidential candidate Eugene V. Debs; TV/radio commentator ELLEN RATNER channels Harriet Beecher Stowe; EVELIA JONES, a direct descendant of Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings, will portray her great-grandmother (many times removed); etc. In the meantime we are seeking more talents to participate.

“Towards the Mountaintop: Commemorating Dr. King” is being presented 3:00 p.m., Aug. 26 at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, 400 W. Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90015 by Cause Celeb Productions. CCP grew out of the 70th Anniversary Commemoration of the Hollywood Blacklist on Oct. 27, 2017 at the Writers Guild Theater, which C-SPAN aired on nationwide TV.
