Honoring the Life of Dr. Craig Joseph Yennie
Dr. Craig Joseph Yennie, born March 24th, 1983 in Hartford, CT passed away unexpectedly at age 33 on November 8th, 2016 in Providence, RI.
As a long time Hartford resident, he attended M.D. Fox Elementary School and then Classical Magnet at Quirk Middle School. During that time he helped co-found the South End Knight Riders Youth Center, now known as Compass Youth Collaborative. After graduating from Sport Sciences Academy in 2001, he attended Trinity College and earned his Bachelors degree in Chemistry. He then went on to obtain his Ph.D. in Chemistry at Brown University where he published several studies and taught hundreds of students.
Intelligent, humble, patient, kind, and generous, Craig made an impact through his unassuming nature, dedication to excellence, and love of family. Craig will be remembered not only for his academic achievements but also for his devotion to people. All who knew Craig will remember his contagious “belly” laugh, his beautiful smile, and his calming and pleasant spirit. Tutoring students, playing pool, watching sports, helping out at family events, and traveling with family brought him much joy.
In honor of Craig, his family and friends would like to create a memorial fund. The money collected for the memorial fund will support three different projects. First, the development of the Dr. Craig J. Yennie Scholarship for students at Sport and Medical Sciences Academy in Hartford, CT. This will be a scholarship awarded to students on a yearly basis who demonstrates success in the sciences and demonstrates citizenship through service within their community. Second, a memorial fixture at Brown University in Providence, RI for students and faculty to honor Craig and the research he has contributed to the university and the Chemistry field. Lastly, a memorial fixture at Trinity College in Hartford, CT for students and faculty to remember the impact Craig had on the Chemistry Lab.
Education is an important tool that the Yennie family has always valued. This fund will not only help to carry on the memory of Dr. Craig J. Yennie but will provide Hartford students with financial support to further their own education.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Craig’s life at Immanuel Congregational Church, 10 Woodland St Hartford, CT 06105 on December 3rd 2016 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may contribute to the Dr. Craig J. Yennie Scholarship/Memorial Fund.
