Doug's Life Saving Cancer Treatment
My son, Doug Carlson, needs your help to save his life.
On Friday, February 3 our family received devastating news! His Pancreatic Cancer had spread to his lungs.
Doug is 58 years old and has been suffering from Neuroendocrine Pancreatic Cancer for over 7 years. This is a rare form of cancer. Almost every one dies from Pancreatic Cancer within a year.
However, medical research with Doug's type of cancer cell has led to a new treatment that adds 3 or 4 years to a person's life, enough time to receive the future therapies that are expected to cure this cancer.
That would be a miracle for Doug and our family!
But Doug is getting physically weaker by the day. The surgeries, chemo and radiation treatments, medications, and multiple scans have all taken their toll. The side effects have led to chronic severe pain, almost daily vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty eating and drinking, and severe weight loss.
Through it all Doug has persevered with a positive attitude though prayer and meditation. He seldom complains. He is thankful for still being alive but concerned that the cancer is growing stronger and catching up to him.
Through his entire life Doug has always given a helping hand to others. Now he is the one who needs the help.
Doug MUST receive this new treatment as soon as possible, before he becomes too weak to qualify for it. His oncologists say nothing else can save him at this time.
The challenge is the cost. His health insurance will not pay for the four treatments over a 6 month period for a total $40,000. Doug relies on his Social Security Disability for his bills and in no way can he afford this treatment.
Please donate to help save Doug's life.
Please spread the word by mailing this letter to your friends.
My family and I thank you for your consideration,
Paul Carlson, Doug's Dad
Just wanted to let you know that Doug just got done with the first prrt treatment in Houston and he did great!
In fact he slept through the entire 4 hrs!
No nausea or vomiting either. They loaded him up with high dose anti-nausea meds and other iv meds which really helped.
The 3 Drs we met with yesterday said they are 'optimistic' the treatments will have a significant effect on his tumors regardless of where they are located, even the tumors in his lungs.
The medicine only seeks out the rare type of cancer cells he has, not healthy cells. Basically it's 'smart' technology.
On another note, a fishing buddy, Tim Tuttle (who has been amazingly generous in many ways) found a buyer for Doug's boat. So it's bittersweet; hard to lose his customized & much-loved boat, but as Doug says 'I can't use my boat if I'm not alive'. So true. He can always get another boat.
We are scheduled to fly home to Cali tomorrow night, (April 5).
Then he will need his 2nd treatment 6-9 weeks later. Thank you for helping Doug to get started on this treatment!
Do miracles happen? Do people have compassion for someone they do not even know? I know the answer to that!
A resounding YES!!!
About 2 months ago I found out that my cancer had metastasized into my lungs
The therapy needed was out of reach for me financially.
I thought I was a dead man walking. I asked family, friends, and supporters to please donate to help me stay alive!
OMG!!! I literally have hundreds of you to thank!!! I have prayed for this opportunity for a long time and I am so thankful to everyone who has donated to either GoFundMe campaigns, checks, passed my info to others and Prayed for me!!!
Bottom line, you have raised enough $$$ for my first two trips to Houston to save my life!!! Grateful & Thankful doesn't even come close to what I am feeling! Keep y'all posted from Houston!
Thank you to the many kind people who are helping Doug!
We are headed to Houston today for his first treatment. Doug's in very good spirits and says the encouraging comments he's read 'pump him up'. So keep them coming.
More updates after we get there.
