"Doris & Sylvana Family Fund"

Hello, my name is Francisco Crisostomo. On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 29, 2016 my mother Doris Arias and my niece, her granddaughter, Sylvana Collado were run down while waiting for the bus in front of St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Upon returning from running errands at a local pharmacy located in downtown Worcester, at approximately 1:30 PM, a vehicle driven by Cassandra M. McAuliffe turned a corner and lost control of the vehicle as she pursued her ex-boyfriend; allegedly trying to run him off the road. The results of this dispute had a tragic and devastating effect on both, my mother Doris and my 5 year old niece, as the vehicle struck both of them head on as they waited for the bus on the sidewalk.

My sister Violeta Crisostomo, Sylvana’s mother, was contacted at work and raced to the hospital with little news of what had actually happened or the extent of the injuries to her daughter and our mother. When she arrived at the emergency room her daughter was covered in blood, bruised, and according to the doctors had suffered a skull fracture. My mother was in even worse shape having suffered a broken shoulder, arm, pelvis, appriximately 8-9 broken ribs, multiple head and face lacerations, and a punctured lung. The doctors told my sister Violeta that they could possible develop long standing problems due to the head trauma and that only time would tell if the injuries that were visible now were the only existing problems.

Due to the negligence of Cassandra M. McAuliffe, our lives irrevocably changed. My mother's injuries represent an elongated hospital stay with an even longer recuperative therapy period as she heals. Sylvana, although now released from the hospital needs constant supervision from her mother and family as we try to monitor her closely in case of any complication that may arise. My sister, Sylvana’s mother, has also taken an extended leave from work to care for Sylvana and also to help me care for our mother. We both take shifts at the Rehabilitation Hospital providing support and care for our mother. We were attending College and maintained full time employment. Both of our employment and schooling have been put on hold as we care for our loved ones.

We are eternally grateful for the thoughts and prayers of our community, and for the emotional support of our family, coworkers and friends at this time. However, this accident has perpetually changed our lives. As of right now my sister and I are unable to continue with our education or our jobs. With the rising cost of our mother’s hospital stay and the therapies she will need after her stay we cannot afford to be out of work. It is only through the urging of our loved ones that we have created this account so that those who would like to contribute may do so, any amount would be greatly appreciated. We thank you so much for any donation you  might be able to provide.
