Donna's Kidney Fund

For anybody who has the pleasure of meeting my mother, they know what a selfless person she is; she would give you the shirt off her back if she knew you or not.  She has done so much for me, my family, our community, our church, as well as indivuals in need.  She is on many committees in our community, she is a girl scout leader, a member of many groups at church, a daycare provider, and one of the best mother's I know.  I may be biased, but when I think of all the traits (good and bad) that a mother should have, she possesses them all.  She has done so much for so many people and I think it is time something be done for her.  My pride gets in the way of me asking for help, but I have to face the facts that I am one person and need help so I am turning to you guys.

Let me tell you a little bit of what's going on....

In 2006, my grandmother was very ill dying from renal failure.  My mother would travel back and forth taking care of her and our family.  She developed a cold that caused her to have a horrible cough. One day, she coughed an her vision got very blurry.  She went to the hospital where she was told her kidneys are failing and as a result, she had very high blood pressure.  It was so high that when she coughed, she detached the retina in her left eye.  The doctors told her there was nothing they could do about the eye sight and that she would lose it, but they needed to address the bigger problem; her kidney's. The doctors attempted to control her kidney function with medication.

In October 2015, her nephrologist told her she needed to go on dialysis because she had stage 5 renal failure and her kidney's were only functioning at 5%.  Though my mother should have taken the doctor's advice, she could not afford to stop working.  My mother brings in the majority of the income in our family and she was looking at the best interest of her family over her own health.

Last week, my mother went back to the nephrologist were they told her that her kidney function has dropped to 4% and would not let her leave without making an appointment to start dialysis.  My mother can no longer turn a blind eye to her health decline.  She has to stop working and start dialysis.  Though she does have insurance, it does not covering 100% of the cost.  My mother is very scared and does not want to lose her house.  I am asking for help to cover medical expenses as well as living expenses.  I am a new grad and have stacked up a lot of debt in student loans.  I realize I will have to contribute most of my paycheck to help my mother out, but it will not be enough.  Anything will help and I appreciate it more than you can ever imagine.  My mother is my everything and I do not know what I would do if I lost her.  Thank you.
