Hope for Donna Daniel

A Brother makes a Plea to the Public to Save His Sister.
Let’s Help. She’s Our Sister. She’s Our Neighbor, She’s Our Friend.
Dona Daniel…daughter of Euthelie & Mc. Donald Daniel of St. Joseph.
Her beautiful smile, shiny eyes and appealing looks often draw strangers to ask, “What is wrong with her?” Having turned thirty-seven, four months ago, Donna was born healthy but during the last six months, her organs began to fail. She is a mother, too -- a single parent of one son, her only child, and he has just turned thirteen. She once managed Big Fish Restaurant in St. Maarten and just before she became sick, she was an employee at Kmart, in St. Thomas.

Donna is critically ill and is a patient at St. Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey. She has been diagnosed with ATLL, an aggressive (fast-growing) cancer, T-cell Leukemia /lymphotropic Virus Type1 which is most common in the Caribbean. The doctors had given her forty-eight hours to live since all of her organs had shut down. But thank God Almighty! He is a wonderful God. He has given her a second chance. As the doctors said, they do not know what the future holds for Donna.

Symptoms include:
Swollen throat, loss of hair
Low energy, fever or chills.
Persistent fatigue, weakness.
Frequent or severe infections.
Losing weight without trying.
Swollen lymph nodes, enlarged liver or spleen.
Easy bleeding or bruising.
Recurrent nosebleeds.
Bone pain or tenderness
Loss of appetite, among a wide array of other symptoms that have characterized Donna Daniel.

From the outside, this can all seem overwhelming, and it is. It has become normal for family members to be in and out of the hospital. Every mother hates seeing her child suffer. No one can ever imagine the pain and sleepless nights our mother must be going through, wishing she could take Donna’s place and free her from the discomfort and instantly heal her, and the wide variety of conflicting emotions that pull the heart of a mother in different directions.

All of us who know Donna know her fighting spirit. She is determined to live a full life again and every day we, the family, try to put on a brave face and wear a smile, but our heart is aching. Our sister’s condition is emotionally, physically, spiritually and financially draining. In fact, Donna is under intense medical treatment. She has been on dialysis and you know what? Donna has shown signs of recovery!

Let us help! Let us help Donna to attain a full recovery as those wonderful doctors at St. Barnabas care for her. Our family and friends, therefore appeal to individuals, corporations, charity organizations, churches, and anyone who can help, to help us. We are grateful for anything that you can give to accord Donna Daniel a new lease on life, including prayers.
