Help Our Mum Beat Cancer

We have started this page to ask for your support to help save the life of our beloved mum, Lorraine Bush. 

Lorraine's Story

Lorraine is a community champion, over the past 15 years, running a substance misuse charity ‘Hawkspring’, which also supports the children and families too, as well as giving out food bank vouchers, community use of telephones, benefits, debts, housing, mental health support/signposting, it’s a lifeline for the community…

When funding was cut 5 years ago she endlessly fought to keep services running and keep the doors open, Lorraine was determined to keep fundraising and has now managed to secure a new contract giving 5-9 years financial security; saving staff jobs, supported 3,000 individuals during this period and have just taking on 4 new staff.  

Lorraine grew up in Hartcliffe which is one of the most deprived communities in the UK and has so much passion to make a difference within the community. She never gives up on people even when they had given up on themselves. She has always gone above and beyond to care for others, while also supporting her husband and raising 2 children at home. Staff, family, community and friends now want to help her survive.

Tragedy strikes 

Unfortunately in July this year, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. After months of battling with eating and back ache, she returned to the doctors on numerous occasions to try and find an answer. After further scans and biopsies, she started a 3 month programme of Chemotherapy, and has just been told the Chemo was unsuccessful. The chemo had many bad side effects and unfortunately, Lorraine lost 4 stone in weight and has been in and out of hospital and very weak, but is now eating better and picking up in strength.

How we can help her

Following the devastating news that chemo treatment was unsuccessful; we were unsure what options we now had, till we found Oncologica. Oncologica are an independent DNA specific oncology that test each individual’s biopsy to find out exactly what treatment will target their specific cancerous area; without the use of blasting their entire body with chemo. When the most suitable treatments are identified, some of them will need self funding.  Hawkspring Staff are organising a mountain climb to the Beckon Beacons soon and family, community and other friends are arranging other fundraising challenges to help. Anything you can do to help prolong her time with us, we will be eternally grateful for.
