Hi. Our good friend needs help to hire a divorce attorney.
We are not revealing her name under the advice of a representative from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Our friend has bipolar disorder and pet chickens who helps to keep her grounded. Her husband has been using both her illness and her love for her pet chickens to emotionally abuse her. This is the third time he has put her through a bout of this kind of abuse and the last time. She is ready to end it but she needs our help financially. This time he is also verbally abusing her disabled mother who lives with them and is cared for by our friend 24/7 We have knowledge that he is actively seeking to divorce her, he is looking intensely for loopholes to avoid paying her alimony and he is trying to sell the house out from under her without giving half. He is already looking for an apartment and he has been reading articles about one night stands and other incriminating subjects.

He is the bread winner of the family and everything is in his name except her car. Her Cruelty Free Feathers business is a very small business and does not bring enough income for her to support herself and her Mom, much less to hire a REALLY good attorney who will help her protect herself and her disabled mother. She has spoken to attorneys from a nearby domestic violence organization and they want to help her but they can't do it completely for free - a good rate, yes - but not free. She needs to raise a minimum of $3,000 to save herself and her mother from being left in the dust by her abusive husband.
For years her husband has been jealous of and hated her chickens. The arguments started about six years ago. There have been three really enormous episodes of emotional and verbal abuses where she has ended up needing medical psychiatric attention for each episode, and has seen a physician due to injury and illness brought on by two episodes. A couple of years ago she had to see the family doctor because he screamed into her ear so loud and for such a long time it got damaged. This third episode is the last and worst one. He has kept her under constant anxiety, twisting her mind around as he has learned to do. He refused to help her when she was overwhelmed with work this spring. She had to see the family doctor twice for emotional and physical exhaustion and dangerously elevated blood pressure and heart rate. Her physician prescribed that she get rest, protect herself and hire a good divorce attorney. His very words. Oh, and she will have to get medication changes for the bipolar disorder to help her cope with the stress and to prevent her from getting suicidally depressed. Despite the doctor's orders he STILL did not help her which caused her to suffer exhaustion difficulties three time longer than it should have.

One of her husband's tactics for causing her anxiety is to threaten to make her give up all of her chickens to the point where she actually has to start rehoming some, then suddenly he'll change his mind when sales from the Cruelty Free Feathers business happens to increase.
He tells her that if she needs help to just ask. When she does ask for help she never knows when he will go into a rage over how she "is so ungrateful because I have given you a house, chickens, the life you want and everything that I give you and do for you but it is never enough". She gets considerable anxiety just considering asking him to help her with even the smallest thing.
He keeps her in a state of insecurity. He tells her every now and then that as soon as her mom passes away he will sell the house and move back to the city and she can just do whatever she wants.

This spring had been incredibly busy on her farm taking care of the chickens and rescuing a family of feral domestic rabbits that escaped being mauled to death by hunting dogs, also for finding help for her invalid mother - both for physical care and for finding resources to help them get a wheelchair, a ramp, etc., and maintaining her small business. He had two weeks off from work yet still refused to help lighten her workload but would instead criticize her "lack of time management skills", so he informed her he would be watching her to let her know when he thought she was not using her time wisely. She became anxious anytime she wanted to anything out of her normal chores and activities. He berated her for a week for washing her car because she simply needed a break from all the usual chores and worries.
Our friend WILL break this cycle. She MUST hire an attorney to protect herself and her invalid mother. He is planning on leaving the two of them completely in the dust after emotionally abusing her and verbally abusing both of them to the point where our friend became physically ill. The money we are raising is to retain an attorney that had been recommended to her by a local domestic abuse organization connected with the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She has found some wonderful resources that have given her and all of us (her good friends) hope, courage and some knowledge.

Thank you so very much for considering helping out our dear friend and her mom AND her chickens and rescue rabbits for that matter! We just can't let that man crush our dear friend. We just CAN'T.
...Also, we are advised to not let him know we are raising money to hire an attorney for her so we are sharing this campaign in places he won't see it, such as closed animal groups, craft groups, etc. (DO NOT POST IN VIRGINIA MUSIC GROUPS - he is a musician) and even twitter as long as her name is not connected to it. “To help us get the word out, please, can you share our link to your Facebook groups, on your timeline ONLY if you are not connected on facebook to the parties involved or any of their friends (pm the poster of this link for info). Oh, and Twitter or any other social media. Thank you so much!!!”
