Dollars for Defibrillators

On May 18th, 2017 at 3:15 in the afternoon I died.  I suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at work.  Only 5 people out of a 100 will survive.  I was one of the lucky ones. 

A Sudden Cardiac Arrest could happen anywhere and at any time.  The question is… would you be able to save them?  It could be a spouse, a child, a friend, a co-worker or a stranger.  Please help.

Two things saved me:  CPR and the use of an AED. 
I survived thanks to my co-workers starting CPR and the speedy response of paramedics who used and AED to restart my heart.  It's thanks to these folks that my wife still has a husband, my children still have a father and my friends and co-workers still have me to make them laugh and smile.   AND... I have them.

Over 325,000 people a year die from an out of hospital cardiac arrest. 

Two things saved me:

            CPR was started within 2 minutes

            Paramedics cardioverted me within 6 minutes   
          (they jump started my heart with an AED device)

I’m on a mission to do 2 things. 

1.     Put 100 additional Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) throughout the Sioux Falls Metro area.   

2.     Promote and arrange training for Hands Only CPR for businesses and individuals.  These classes will be provided by Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue at NO CHARGE.   The class takes less than an hour.  You will be trained on half mannequins and learn how to properly do chest compressions.   All we need is 10 – 20 people in each class.  Gather up your friends and call Jeremy at Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue at [phone redacted].
