Dojo Nowhere
Donation protected
Dojo Nowhere is an experimental music series, focusing on artists, composers, educators, and performers of different backgrounds and skill sets. We invite you to participate in the exchange of ideas and creative thought. For a creative community, I believe it is tremendous for individuals to practice listening to one another, which is a large part of what Dojo Nowhere is about and interested in cultivating.
The inspiration for the name comes from the idea that a creative space can be anywhere (mobile or stationary) and makes for an interesting experiment when those places change over time. Most of this year's participating artists are based in Charleston, SC, but a few live elsewhere and will travel or share works remotely. Although the events are free and open to the public, we are asking for donations at the door. I would LOVE to give at least a little something back to the people making it possible.
This is the third installment of the on-going and evolving project. The first existing in the form of an improvisers collective which met on Sundays in an art cafe (King Dusko, 2014) . The second being an instrument building and sound collage workshop using recycled materials (CCPL / DIY Fest, 2015). This year's hosts include: Charleston City Gallery, Redux Contemporary Art Center, and St. Julian Devine Community Center.
Each happening will cover 3 main elements:
(1) INTERVIEWS – I will act as a moderator/mc/host of sorts to get each performer to open up a bit about their processes and specific bodies of work.
(2) PERFORMANCES – Our colorful array of talented beings will span concentrations such as: electroacoustic music, xenharmonix, modular synths, microsynths, musique concrete, sound design, acoustic and electronic percussion, vocalizations, computer music, and more.
(3) WORKSHOPS – For each person presenting, this can look and feel a lot of different ways. This interactive element will either be a hands-on learning experience or a real-time improvisational segment.
Ultimately, it would be a huge success to not only get through this season with overwhelming and considerate concert attendance, but to have many fruitful and beneficial opportunities in other fields happen for these fine collaborators.

This funding project is to help return the generosity of all the artists involved who are sharing their time, their stories, and their skills in a beautiful way. Any contributions will go directly to the artists, covering a minimal portion of the production of the series, namely the cost of transportation and/or a snack. If you can give more, PLEASE DO!
Our first event of the season will be the 16th of August, running through the 27th of October!
