NORTH COLLEGE HILL, Ohio (Deb Dixon) - Tuesday, Feb. 2, there was newly released security video that showed a killer running from Leach Automotive.
For 35 years the man known affectionately as "Papa Joe" worked on cars at his shop in North College Hill. The family hopes new video and reward money will lead to a murder arrest. The Leach family is running the automotive business now. They grew up working there. Working hard is the Leach family way. Joe had three children and eight grandchildren.
His daughter, Carla, said the family was doing the only thing it could for Joe now, look for his killer. Security video was a start. The robber could be seen going into the business around 2 p.m. on Jan. 5.
All that can be seen is his hoody. Seconds later there is a flash from gunfire. The killer runs out of the store, across Simpson Street, toward an apartment complex and disappears.
Friends and family are offering a $5,000 reward to find out who he is. It's believed when confronted by the gunman Joe went to a door to get the mechanic working the bay, when he turned he was shot in the back. When Joe was found, his gun was nearby; there was still money in his pockets.
Police were also working on the theory that the killer was someone familiar with the shop. It's common knowledge Joe carried money in his pockets. There wasn't even a cash register.
Survivors of homicide are often consumed with getting those answers. It's possible the answer is in forensic science.
There is one piece of evidence killer left behind. He likely doesn't even know this. The piece of evidence is now being analyzed at a crime lab.
