Mari's Hurricane Relief Fund

$10,031 of $10,000 goal

Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico with historic force, and it’s been seven days since we’ve heard from our girl Marivett Villafane (Mari). While it’s going to be a long road to recovery for the entire island, we want to band together to help our dear friend. Until she can get in touch with us, we don’t have any specific information on what Mari will need in the weeks and months ahead, but we want to be proactive and prepare to act the second we make contact. Mari brings so much to the lives of so many, and now is our time to give back. Please donate if you are able. If you’re not, please share with someone who may be.

Mari is at the airport now waiting to leave Puerto Rico and start her new journey. Thanks to everyone who has donated and shared this gofundme. Money doesn't fix everything but it definitely eases the transition from tragedy to triumph. Thanks again for all the support. I will see her in a few hours and give her hugs from all of you.

Mari drove 45 minutes from her house today to get a shaky signal just to check in and check her mom's flight status. Things are still so dire in Puerto Rico. Her aunt passed away due to lack of medical supplies and medication. Mari said people are dying everywhere. Still no power or running water. On Wednesday it will be a month since Maria struck, I can't imagine these conditions. Her mom will be leaving the island tomorrow and Mari on Friday. I'm hopeful that they will be able to begin healing from the emotional and physical toll once they leave. Thank you all so much for sharing and contributing to help Mari and her mom restructure their entire lives. Love to you all.

Mari was in San Juan today picking up her brother and had service! I know she tried to reach out to as many people as she could with the limited time. She's so thankful for all the support. Her brother has insulin for her mom and her mom will be leaving for Chicago on 10/17. Mari will be behind her coming in 10/20.
The situation is Puerto Rico is still awful. No power. No water. No money. Her job let everyone go yesterday. So in a the blink of an eye her entire life has changed. Thanks everyone for all the donations to get her through this awful time. You guys are truly amazing.

I finally heard from Mari today!! Which it was amazing to hear her voice but now I feel even worse than I did before. She said conditions are worse than we could imagine. They're out of water, still no power and almost out of fuel. Her mother is out of insulin and has been using a neighbor's supply but that is also running low. People are dying in their homes because 911 isn't working and the roads aren't passable. She contacted her brothers and her main priority is getting someone to come and get her mother out of Puerto Rico. She said she'll figure out things for herself after her mother is safe. I wish I had better news but she wanted everyone to know she's alive and they're making it so far.
