DIVING 4 CHANGE

Help send Zack Maxwell and Jonas Peschel on a life changing diving adventure!

Growing up as a teenager nowadays is a challenge at best and often overwhelming and disheartening. Climate change, environmental destruction and uncertainty about what the future will bring have never been more pressing issues than now. High rates of suicide, depression and substance abuse among Australian youth are indicative of these difficult times. Especially young people are faced with the challenge of finding a meaningful, positive way to engage with the world and the issues it faces.

As parents of teenage boys we have watched this struggle first-hand. Together we have searched for something that speaks to their passions, has meaning, gives back to the earth and has the potential to broaden their horizons and lift them out of their apathy and into empowerment.

Now an amazing, potentially life changing opportunity to study Geomorphology in the Canary Islands in June 2019 has been offered to these young men.
www.waldorfworldwide.org

The beauty of this program is that it speaks to the boys passion for all things “ocean”. Having grown up with the Great Barrier Reef in their backyard, they have developed a long and lasting relationship with the ocean. From swimming to snorkeling, fishing to free-diving, boating to photographing, many of their most memorable childhood moments were made in and with, the ocean.

Geomorphology is crucial to the mapping of seabeds and marine systems, coral reefs and fish spawning and plays an important part in the conservation of the Great Barrier Reef.
The study trip will include gaining diving certification and developing research skills in oceanography. The certification will open up exciting job opportunities on the reef when they return. Our young men will collaborate with students and teachers from Europe and Asia, learning and sharing experiences from their home countries, inspiring each other to gain important skills to contribute to their futures on a healthy planet.

The trip will also include a second part, where the boys will have the opportunity to give something back by being of service to people in need, whether it be volunteering in a soup kitchen or repairing an orphanage, they will have the humbling and rewarding experience of giving and being in service.

The boys are working to raise funds for the trip through, sausage sizzles, odd jobs, working bees, and saving from their part time jobs.

Any donation you can make, whether it be $5 or $500, will go towards sending these young men on a journey to open their eyes to the larger issues facing our world and equip them with the tools to make a difference....

Thank You!
