Divahn - New Music, New Album
Iranian-descended singer Galeet Dardashti leads our all-female power-house Middle Eastern Jewish ensemble, Divahn . Our New York City-based group has gained an international following with its fresh and fiery renditions of traditional and original Sephardi/Mizrahi Jewish songs: lush string arrangements, eclectic Indian, Middle Eastern, and Latin percussion, and vocals spanning Hebrew, Judeo-Spanish, Persian, Arabic, and Aramaic. “Divahn,” a word common to Hebrew, Persian, and Arabic, means a collection of songs or poetry. Through our music, we underscore common ground between diverse Middle Eastern cultures and religions.
We recently completed our first song for the album, Banu Choshech Legaresh (We've Come to Chase Away The Darkness), a Hanukah song. We received such positive response that we decided to make a music video! We hope you enjoy it:
We appreciate any amount of donation, small or large! Your donation will go towards one of the numerous steps needed to make an album: recording in the studio, mixing and editing, promotion and marketing, printing CDs, and so much more! It’s a long process with many moving parts, and we are enjoying every moment!
