I think we all remember Andy - crazy drummer,  philospher-at-large,  all around daredevil... and a hell of a great guy.

In case you did not hear, Andy suffered a major stroke last year right after Christmas (Jan 2017). He was in a coma for almost 3 months. He was significantly disabled - from the paralysis typical of a major stroke, but the stroke also left Andy completely blind.

His blindness is especially devastating, because as many of you know, his passion and career was in art and graphic design.

He has been through several facilities and stages of recovery, working hard to regain his independence, but he has a long way to go. He is currently living in a basic assisted care facility outside of Madison Wisconsin. His current insurance benefits cover the basic assisted care facility, and some physical therapy, but that's about it.

We are hoping to raise a significant amount, to help enhance Andy's current recovery efforts with more physical and occupational therapy.  The money will go into a medical trust that can pay out enough each year to significantly raise Andy's independence and quality of life.

Please give whatever you can, and help change Andy's life.  And please share his story and campaign with anyone you may know who has a connection with Andy.  It is critical for us to get the word out.

Thanks for your help and generosity.

Hey guys,

First of all, I wanted to thank everyone for giving so generously, and sharing Andy's story... keep up the good work and share it anywhere you can.

Secondly, I wanted everyone to know who I am and my relationship with Andy. I am a friend of Andy’s from high school. While I went to a rival high school, I had some good friends that went to Andy’s high school and that is how I met him. We’ve had a number of little adventures together in high school and college – he is one of those friends to whom you are bound for life because of those adventures.

I also wanted to give you quick update on the status for the trust fund. We have engaged Meghan Teigen at Christensen Johnson ( http://www.cjlawwi.com/) in Madison to create the trust through the nonprofit organization called Wispact. The paperwork has been signed, and the trust should be active in the next week, at which point we will transfer the money from gofundme to the trust, and the trust can begin dispersing funds as necessary for Andy’s care.

Wispact ( https://www.wispact.org/about-wispact/) is a great organization whose main function is to act as the trustee and to hold and manage the trust funds for special needs and medical trusts, and have the personnel and expertise to do so.

An awesome benefit from working with Wispact is that they provide grants to cover the legal costs of setting up such trusts ( https://www.wispact.org/creation-fee-grant/). The grants come as a reimbursement of the money spent, directly into the trust. However, I will have to pay the initial legal retainer to the law firm before the trust is created out of my own pocket, and Wispact will reimburse the cost directly into the trust fund. Therefore, I will be taking a disbursement out of the funds to my personal account to cover the legal fee (which again, will then be reimbursed by Wispact into the trust fund). The bottom line, is that every cent that is donated to this gofundme campaign will go to Andy’s care. I hope this is clear to everyone.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I wanted everyone to be clear on what is happening (and why). Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

We (me and Andy's mom) have engaged a lawyer to create a Special Needs Trust with Wispact - the Wisconsin nonprofit for managing Special Needs Trusts. For those of you that not have been through something like this, this is a very important step to be sure Andy gets the maximum benefit from the funds we raise. This means that no creditors (ie hospitsal etc) can come after the money, and it will not impact his other medical benefits.

Please keep spreading the word. We need to keep this thing moving !
