Perma-Quest @ The Yoga Forest

$1,645 of $2,085 goal

If I've ever touched your life with my giving would you please consider donating to my dream cause?

My vision is to transform underserved communities from corporate food dependence to self-reliant abundance by teaching communities the design principles of Permaculture. In order to achieve this vision I need to obtain a Permaculture Design Certification (PDC).

Do We Ever Really Stop Learning?
I hope not! Please help me turn my vision into reality via the experiential learning opportunity of a lifetime at
The Yoga Forest in San Marcos la Laguna, Guatemala November 2-16, 2014.

Where Did I Get This Idea?
About a year ago a seed was planted in my mind; a seed named Permaculture. It's been an informational, loving, and obsessive relationship. Like, really obsessive. Now we're…er…I'm ready to take it to the next level. Consummation.

My grandfather was an avid gardener. He was free with his knowledge and his award-winning tomatoes. This is where the deep romance with nature and altruism started. Bare feet in the dirt and hands muddy, too. The earthy thrill of it all.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the road, the wisdom of my grandfather and his forefathers was obscured. Living off the land converted into detrimental convenience, food insecurity, ignorance, and poverty. However, all was not lost.

Over the last few years I've revisited the old ways with small-scale gardening projects, healthier lifestyle changes/choices, creative, sustainable solutions, attending meet-ups about soils, and visiting eco-friendly communities, etc. This return to a natural lifestyle has radically changed my mindset and I know I've only just scratched the surface of the far-reaching health benefits.

But there's always been this little voice, an inner cheerleader, cheering towards something even bigger, even better - something that will sustain folks - every single one. Permaculture teaches communities how to think about their resources and how to use their resources to plan for a sustainable future. By teaching others how to implement the design principles of Permaculture they will be able to acknowledge that they truly are the ones with the solutions, and that many of these solutions lie no farther than their own backyards.

The Bottom Line:
It's easy for me to downplay the impact I've had when helping others: through facilitating art, fundraising for family member's medical bills and defining life events, rallying for community causes, volunteering my time and/or giving food/furniture/clothing items to loved ones and the underserved. Admittedly, as much as the giver turns outward, they often need to take the time to maintenance themselves and turn inward.

Please help me achieve my goal of obtaining a Permaculture Design Certificate in order that I might be of even greater service to myself, to my family, and to humanity.

Any funds raised over the goal will be paid forward to another charity.

It's taking some time to get into the swing of being back in the States but Operation Perma-Quest has concluded as a success. My apologies for the lack of real-time updates while at the Yoga Forest. The solar power and tech time was extremely limited. This was a most challenging endeavor, and rewarding experience, rolled all into one.

Certification is completed! After an intensive two week course, the class found themselves as certified Permaculture Designers. Honored to have shared learning space with so many wonderful facilitators and gifted students. I want to thank all of the amazing cohorts that gathered in the name of permaculture, and especially those who looked after me when faced with adversity (you know who you are).

Unfortunately, I was met with an unexpected tribulation in the forest. I was robbed of a good chunk of my personal belongings. My cell phone (if you've tried to contact me and not heard back, now you know why), my art supplies (inclusive of all my thank you gift drawings), my ID, credit/debit cards, remaining trip monies, assorted toiletries and other various items. I'm in the process of replacing these things and am constantly reminded of how it could have been worse.

It appears that I did sustain an injury during the incident and have an appointment to be seen, tomorrow. I've woken up in paralyzing pain for the last two days. Numb hands, unable to lift my arms above my head or turn my neck, or get a good night's rest. Any love, positive vibes, and prayers sent this way are greatly appreciated.

I plan on working diligently to recreate many of the drawings that were lost with the hopes of getting those "thank yous" out as soon as possible. Ferments are going to be ready over the next few weeks, too. Also, if you pledged for a design, let's schedule a consultation meeting soon.

With love,

The whole gang!

The time is NIGH! Operation Perma-Quest commences, tomorrow. Thanks to everyone the campaign is a whopping success and raised 77% of the total goal. My gratitude is immeasurable. The knowledge gained from this experience will be, too. Anxious to start paying it forward and rocking out upcoming planning/projects. All the best - Jenn

This is the VERY last push for funding for this quest. The level of acknowledgement for the validity of this mission has been amazing. Because of you, this time next week, I will be in Guatemala embarking on the certification of a lifetime. Gracias por todo.

Thanks to your generous donations, I'm looking forward to cranking out a ton of drawings of the surrounds at Lake Atitlán, fermented goods, and permaculture property designs when I return. I will come out the other end of this stronger, with more knowledge, and an ever bigger hunger for sharing. We're living in exciting times and the power is within all of us to participate in sustainable solutions for our communities, and our future.

Stayed tuned for the trip recap. With light and love.

WOW. It's already Friday again. Fundraising has been such a beautiful process. We're at 64% raised. That's 24% up from last week and a mere 36% more to be FULLY funded. A monumental increase. Amazing! I'm blown away by the amount of support this campaign has received. Thank you.

By now, many of your initial thank you cards should have landed in your mailboxes. If you haven't received one yet, I'm graciously pumping them out.

Also, while teaching a class, last night, it set in that you all have unknowingly helped me realize a childhood dream. This dream is not as big as helping bring folks into abundance but is spectacular nonetheless.

November 1-2 marks a very special holiday in Central America. Dia de los Muertos. During this ceremony that celebrates remembering friends and family who have passed on, giant kites, called ballietas or cometas, are released into the air. It's a meaningful, and artistic (sometimes political), expression for the masses and something I have always dreamed of experiencing. And the light bulb went off. I WILL get to. This was unintentional and powerful revelation.

There are 20 days left in this campaign and then it will be time to move into the actuation part of this quest. Thank you are two paltry words and not a fraction of what I feel for the all of you.
