Dexter the Dobermann Needs You

Dexter is sixteen months old and was recently rescued by Lincs Doberman Rescue. It quickly became clear to Paula and the team that Dexter was suffering from severe anxiety and excessive compulsive behaviours, triggered by anything and everything. He couldn’t cope around other dogs, people and the outside world generally and so urgent foster care was required.

He has been living in his foster home for two months now and is a beautiful, well behaved and loving dog in the house and when just with his foster mum and dad. Throughout the two months they have followed the advice of behaviourists and worked very hard to try and introduce him to the outside world but sadly his anxiety when outside is getting more and more severe and this distress is making his behaviour even more extreme and unmanageable.

Dexter’s quality of life is getting increasingly poor as he cannot even cope with walking to the end of the street and his world is getting smaller, as everything is terrifying for him. The stress he is under just from experiencing the outside world (even without interactions with other dogs or people) is increasingly taking its toll on his mental health. As he is increasingly running out of options for the hope of living an even vaguely normal life, the charity, the vets and his foster home have come to the conclusion he needs intensive and specialist help.

Dexter urgently needs the funds to be placed on a 1:1 programme with a canine specialist for several weeks as his quality of life is rapidly getting worse. The specialist has kindly offered a greatly reduced rate to the charity but due to the intensity and expertise of the help Dexter will require, this figure is still a large sum. He has the potential to be a wonderful, happy dog but he is currently suffering greatly with his mental health issues, so anything that can be donated to help him get the dedicated and professional help he needs will help enormously.
