Help Kelsey, Derrick, and Otto with $16,000 in medical bills.
Cancer was not part of the plan. Kelsey and Derrick were returning home from the Whitefish Winter Carnival in 2012 when a slip on the ice sent Kelsey to the emergency room. It might have been the luckiest stumble in history: while she wasn’t concussed, doctors found a brain tumor that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. It was diagnosed as glioblastoma (GBM), an aggressive form of cancer, and they quickly operated.
They’ve fought one hell of a fight since her diagnosis. Only 4% of people diagnosed with GBM make it 24 months - but that’s not Kelsey. She and Derrick recently celebrated five years cancer-free, years punctuated by wonderful moments including their wedding in 2015, Kelsey's return to coaching the Whitefish youth soccer team, welcoming their new son Otto Francis Whitby this past December, and recently, Kelsey’s 30th birthday.
Now they face a new challenge: a probable recurrence. Kelsey’s doctors identified a low-grade cyst in a routine screening this April, and decided to operate. The results were not what they had hoped - the membrane of the cyst was stage 4 glioblastoma. Their medical expenses could not have come at a tougher time. They recently welcomed Otto to their family, they’re reaching their insurance deductible in Q1, and Derrick just started his own company, Weathervane Builders .
You can help! ANY size donation will help them pay down $16,000 in medical expenses from this most recent surgery, and keep their new family going. Their perpetual optimism and fighting spirit have helped them defy all odds. Kelsey recently wrote, “It is amazing, I have lived 61 months tumor free... for 36 of those months I did chemo... and 10 of them I was pregnant with our beautiful son Otto... Now we are waiting to see what the future brings.”
