Edelia's Cancer Treatments

Edilia Mendez-Gomez is just four years old and has Hodkin's Lymphoma. She and her twin sister Deysi are adorable little girls who are tri-lingual (English, Spanish, and Twin Talk).

Edilia was first diagnosed early this year, and went through a full course of chemo. The oncologist thought they had it in remission, but early this fall the cancer came back. She is currently in a second full course of chemo.

Unfortunately, in between treatments their insurance anniversary hit, and so the family owes the full deductible again. This is a good, hard-working family, but like so many, they survive week to week, and these expenses have quickly overwhelmed them. And in a two-income household, when Melody (their mother) has to take so much time away because of time required at the doctor and the hospital, their budget hole just gets deeper.

We’re trying to raise $15,000 at this time to pay for Edilia’s chemo and other medical costs. There are side effects (seizures, high fevers, and more), and each one of those requires more testing, observation, and medication -- making the final treatment cost an open-ended nightmare.

I’ve personally helped this family out to the limit of our resources over the last few months. If I could I’d cover all this myself, and I’m making the first contribution to this fund, to boot. We’ve also helped obtain other assistance for them, but it’s not enough to make ends meet. And the hospital and oncologist are demanding payment as COD.

Please help us give this beautiful little girl every chance to complete her treatment, for it to succeed, and keep these beautiful twins together for a long lifetime.
