Decker Cancer Warriors

Brian Decker Monday 6/26/17 wasn't feeling quite himself. Tuesday 6/27/17 he came home from work early. He thought he was constipated and within an hour of being home he was even more uncomfortable so he asked me to take him to the ER. Anyone who knows him knows something really had to be wrong to warrant a trip to the ER by choice. We thought maybe impacted bowel and mentioned that at the hospital. They did blood tests then got a CT. Hours later we were told that there was a large mass in his large intestine as well as his liver. Still in severe pain he was medicated and admitted. A diagnosis of Stage 4 Colon Cancer with mass in liver was born & a sigmoidoscopy was conducted on 6/28 to find a mass so large that there was no place for bowel to exit his body. Immediately on 6/29 he was rushed into surgery to have the mass removed. The mass was removed with good margins but the cancer had moved into the walls of his intestines. A colostomy bag was installed and he has an incision from bottom of ribcage to below belly button that is open, packed and being allowed to heal from the inside out. We are waiting on Pathology to determine the exact type of cancer as it can be one of only two types. Then to determine the correct path of treatment. Plan for now is get results, attempt a biopsy of liver plus cutting off the blood supply of the liver to the side with the mass to allow the healthy side to grow so they can remove the mass. Followed by Chemo. Each step will take time. Each day is one step foward for Brian kicking cancers ass.

One day he was fine and the next had Stage 4 Cancer. We were not prepared and as my hours have been cut to 20 a week and his have been cut all together... while we wait for our interview for the application of Social Security Disability to be conducted we are in a bit of a rough patch. Im not usually one to ask for help but find that I cannot do it alone at this point. If you cannot contribute I fully understand as well all have our own issues and lives but would appreciate if you could share it attempt to make sure our family can make it through the rough patch that would be greatly appreciated.

I will post updates on Brian's health as often as I can.

Thanks to everyone in advance for your support, kind words and friendship during this very stressful and scary situation.
