Detroit Dog Rescue is Detroit's FIRST and ONLY No-KILL shelter within the city. We are a small group of people making a big difference.

In the last few days we have taken in an overwhelming amount of dogs. Most have been abused, one is suffering from cancer,  all of them have internal parasites, and a few have deadly heartworm, which can cost thousands of dollars to threat.

Just basic medical treatment cost hundreds of dollars, not to mention each dog is spayed and nuetered and treated for any other ailments. Our veterinarian costs are mounting to overwhelming rates and it's so important that we are able to help these dogs that cannot help themselves.

Please, if you can, donate to our medical fund today. So we can help care for these dogs that deserve a second
chance.

Thank you,
The Detroit Dog Rescue Crew

On 10.22.2015 Detroit Dog Rescue was able to pull a mother and her five newborn puppies from Detroit Animal Control. The puppies and mother were covered in feces, even the puppies noses were blocked by feces and a few of them now have respiratory infections.

Mom is suffering from infection and fever, but is doing well and tending to her puppies. Both mom and pups will need to be medically boarded for the next week or so.

Detroit Dog Rescue has inquired about more dogs at Detroit Animal Control and we believe we will be able to pick them up soon. Due to the fact that we have pulled close to 20 dogs from Detroit Animal Control and another 9 this week on our own routes we have adjusted our GOFUNDME goal. Please, if you can, donate so we can save more lives today!

As of 10.21.2015 Detroit Dog Rescue got news that half of the dogs rescued from Detroit Animal Control tested positive for Heartworm. This will be a long road for those dogs. Treatment is often harsh on their bodies, tiring and takes weeks or months. Since we don't have suitable fosters for these Heartworm cases, who need to be kept quiet and calm while recovering, they will remain in medical boarding where they are getting a lot of love. The rest of the dogs have everything from respiratory infections to extensive skin infections. Several dogs have missing patches of fur and all of them have urine burn on their stomachs and hind quarters.
We have requested to pull any all mothers and their puppies out of Detroit Animal Control as well as a few other dogs posted and we are awaiting approval.
Our shelter is at full capacity and thanks to our friends at Bark Avenue Stay and Play we have begun boarding dogs at Dog Day Care facilities at a reduced rate.
We will be sure to keep everyone updated on the dog's progress through our Facebook page Facebook.com/DetroitDogRescue

All the employees an management that allowed this to happen needs to be fired asap. Has that happened yet? They should put in jail just like anyone else that would have done such a thing.

Donate if you can. Dogs that end up at Detroit Animal Control usually never come out alive. Detroit Dog Rescue is getting some dogs out of the house of horrors into their no-kill shelter. They are making a difference for dogs that otherwise would not have a chance.
