We are raising money to privately sponsor two Syrian refugee families who will soon settle in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Please donate what you can to help us welcome these two families to Canada.
Who are you helping?
A family of four (mother, father, a 5-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy) as well as a family of five (mother, father and three daughters ages 8, 14 and 16.)
While living in a war zone, the family of five endured many hardships. Relatives were killed, bombs and stray bullets blew out windows in their home and their youngest daughter was nearly gunned down.
When the family's oldest daughter was almost kidnapped, they made the difficult decision to flee Syria. For over a year, the family has been displaced. Unable to return home, unable to work and provide for themselves.
Both families now dream of making a new life in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Working with the Association for New Canadians
We are happy to be working with the Association for New Canadians to make this happen.
All funds raised will be deposited in a bank account with the Association for New Canadians that has been set up to help the families pay for living expenses while they are transitioning to life here.
If you have questions about this campaign, contact Ken Walsh, program coordinator at the Association for New Canadians, at [email redacted].
Our goal:
In total, we aim to raise $70 000 through this online campaign and local fundraising events. Our goal for this Go Fund Me page is $30 000.
We're happy to say we already have clothing and household items for the family.
