Queering the Church

For years, I've been promoting LGBT Catholic ministry at my blog, Queering the Church and other sites,  I've been a speaker at LGBT conferences, on radio and TV as an openly gay Catholic advocate for marriage equality, and a committee member for Quest  and the Centre for the Study of Christianity and Sexuality . I am also volunteer webmaster for the forthcoming foundation conference of the Global Network of Rainbow Catholics. All of this has been as a volunteer, depending for a basic income on juggling three part-time jobs at near minimum wage. In effect, I've been subsidising my advocacy and ministry from my own limited income.

The time has come to further expand what I'm doing into new areas, but for that I need help with funding.
My initial appeal was for a target of £800, to buy a new laptop, and to cover travel expenses to Rome, for the foundation conference of the  Global Network of Rainbow Catholics, which will be held in Rome to coincide with the opening of the Bishops' Synod on Marriage and Family. The response was immediate and generous, with strong expressions of support for the value of my work.

I have therefore increased my target to £1500, to help me to develop those new projects. For a more complete account of my activities, my faith journey, and my plans, see my "About Terence Weldon " page at Queering the Church.

At the beginning of October, I attended the foundation conference of the Global Network of Rainbow Catholics, coinciding with the opening of the Assembly on Marriage and Family of the Synod of Bishops. That visit was generously funded by my GoFundMe Supporters. I then went on to Switzerland, for a visit to my daughter and her family. More than just a rest break though, this was very much a working holiday. Much of my time was taken up with following and writing about the proceedings of the synod - and developing important new projects. Notably, this includes the development of a new video channel for LGBT ministry, developing LGBT faith learning resources, and speaking engagements. (Among others, I have agreement from my local parish to speak to them about my experience in Rome, and suggestions on expanding ,ministry to local LGBT people and their families). My work up to now has been valuable: I hope to be even more productive in 2016. (For a full listing of my current and planned activities, see my post at Queering the Church ( http://queerchurch.com/?p=46229 ).
I am deeply grateful for all your support thus far - but I do need still more, to continue as I plan to do.

Many, many thanks for the support so far. I've been frankly overwhelmed, and at the same time, re-invigorated and inspired.
Since meeting my initial target, I've been able to acquire the much needed computer, and am about to make travel bookings for the foundation meeting of the Global Network of Rainbow Catholics - the two issues that above all, led me to make the initial request.

My new energy has also enabled the following:

Quest Bulletin:
On taking on the task of editing this,, I was assured that for the first year, we could accept just two issues, instead of the usual three. In practice, the present editor will complete the first of these, leaving my minimal responsibility as just one. In fact, I have already been able to sketch out the theme and basic content for TWO further editions.

Global Network of Rainbow Catholics:
I've already done some useful work on the new website, and can now set up Skype for further discussions on what to do next.

Queering the Church:
At my own primary site, I have a new, clearer vision of what I am attempting to achieve, and how to do it.

The first, really important project, is one to present a short series of posts on precisely why (and how) Catholic teaching on LGBT issues must and will necessarily change.

The second project, which will take longer, is that I've finally sorted out in my mind how to balance, technically, the three parallel threads of my LGBT Catholic (and other Christian) concerns:

*Enduring, useful resource material
*Commentary on important news stories
*Simple reporting on those news stories.

I'm inspired and invigorated - but all of this will take time, of which I have limited resources.

Can you help me to create more time, by relieving me of the need for some of my present part- time paid employment?

I'm staggered and delighted: inside a week, I've overshot my initial target. That's obviously great news, for which I thank everybody from the bottom of my heart.

The bad news, is that encouraged by your generosity an words of encouragement, I'm about to move the goalposts, and up the target. To explain and attempt to justify this outrageous cheek, I'll publish some more at Queering the Church, just as soon as I get home.
