Hello!
My name is Daymarelys Rodriguez and I was born with a heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. To date, I have undergone three open-heart surgeries, a defibrillator implant and a Melody valve surgery, the latter which extended my life by seven years. As you can imagine, I have been a patient of many medical teams and undergone numerous treatments to make it to adulthood, which is rare for my condition. Unfortunately, after several medical opinions all roads lead to a double transplant of the heart and liver.
My doctors in Miami, Florida referred me to the UPenn Perelman Center for Heart and Liver Transplant, which has a great success rate and I am fortunate enough that they have accepted my case. After an initial visit a few weeks ago, I am working with a social worker to get coverage for the lifetime medicines I will need, and will then need to visit again for an in-depth round of testing. Once the testing is completed, I will need to relocate to Philadelphia for a year to undergo surgery and go through the recovery process. Although it will be a challenging phase of my life, I look forward to the opportunity of a second chance.
The reason I share my story and setup this page, is because I do not have the financial resources necessary to move to UPenn for the double transplant. I kindly ask you consider making a donation to help me cover the relocation, medical and living expenses. If there are any remaining funds, they will be donated to the Perelman Center for Heart and Liver Transplant in hopes to help others in need.
