Hello! My name is Shemena Campbell, I live in Lake Oswego, Oregon, and I'm the niece of Jill Dawson. The Dawson family (Jill, her husband Art, and their two kids) lost their home and almost everything they own in Glen Ellen, California to the massive wildfires in that area. They escaped with their lives, their dog, and one of two cats (if you've seen the other kitty, please leave a message here!) They've had to evacuate three times and haven't even been able to return to the site of their home yet, but we've seen pictures and the house is completely gone. It's devastating to all of us, because thier house was the place where so many of our family memories were shared, and the community of Glen Ellen's memories, too. But as I told my kids, it's not the house that was special, it's the people who lived in it. We are so grateful that they made it out.

Right now they need money for clothing, food, shelter, gas and cell service. A laptop computer would be nice, too. Anything you can do to help this wonderful family will be greatly appreciated.  Jill is the beneficiary for this account, and will be able to withdraw from it directly, and when this crisis isn't as all consuming, hopefully update us. Please be advised, though, that her cell service is spotty!

Dawson Family update!

Our longer term housing has been figured out! We had began to cast the net wider and farther, even as rents began to rise, houses became less available and it became clear to us three times that having pets makes it much more difficult to find a rental.

There are so many times on this journey that we have been grateful, Our long-time neighbors down the road, the Fosters have a large parcel. They called us up very soon after the fire to offer to purchase a trailer and place it on their land for us while we rebuild & then resell it. They had been flooded out of their home and had to rebuild a number of years ago, had done the same thing and really knew first hand how it felt. I am so touched by their generosity and kindness. We visited the trailer a few days ago though and the reality hit us, a 30ft. trailer is tough on a 5'10' teenager who really loved his own room and space. Then we received a suggestion- what about a second tiny trailer for Larkin, next to ours? We ran the idea past the Fosters and not only did they say fine, they HAD a little trailer we looked at yesterday. Larkin's first comment?, "It's adorable." This is a win-win for us, nearby, pets embraced, our own space and a help financially, We are feeling relieved.
And as that site is prepared, a deck is built, trailers moved, etc., we are held in the embrace of our good friends. The wonderful Houghton family has taken us and our menagerie in, reassuring us again and again that we are welcome and loved. This is stop number five on this crazy train. The Eagles, the Bongiovannis x2, the Kaplan-Pasternaks have all welcomed us.

We will recover from this crazy tilt-a-whirl ride we never thought to board. Our feet will again walk on solid ground and our equilibrium re-establish itself and we will look ahead to the next ride. For now, I am just glad for the safety belts that hold us through the ordeal. Love is all. That's it.

So many thanks to everyone who has donated and given comfort in other ways to our family. This article features pictures of Jill and Art as they went through the rubble yesterday.

From Jill:

Peeka is found!!! She was hiding, totally freaked out, under our neighbor's house. It took ten minutes to coax her out, and some strong persuasion to get her to a carrier. Now she is with us, drooling on my lap, head tucked into my arm. Smoky smelling, uninjured and glad to be alive. She and our dog Pepper touched noses. Our other cat Boo, in cat fashion, is unimpressed. The things some creatures do to get attention, really.
