Italian Summer Opera Program

Donation protected
Hello everyone!

I am thrilled to announce that I have been accepted to an Italian opera summer training program, Accademia Vocale Lorenzo Malfatti di Lucca (website: http://www.vocalacademyofitaly.org/ )!!!

For those do not know me personally, I am a junior vocal performance major at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music pursuing my BM. I am training classically, and I also perform jazz music with the BW Jazztet group as one of their vocalists. I am also blessed to be the winner of the Mel and Jena Hakola Prize for Academic and Vocal Excellence, an award given to one junior voice major every year.  My recent engagements at BW have included: Atalanta in Serse, Peep-Bo in The Mikado, Ruth in Ruddigore, Mrs. Graves in Enchanted April, and numerous opera scenes through our Opera Workshop and the Cleveland Opera Theater New Opera Festival.

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM:

I will work with vocal and acting coaches such as: Benjamin Smith (Director of Opera at University of Memphis), Barbara Paver (Associate Professor of Voice at Rice University), Dean Williamson (Music Director of Nashville Opera), Fábio Bezuti (Collaboratie Pianist and Vocal Coach at Manhattan School of Music), and other prominent members of the opera community. This summer program will allow me to spend June 29- July 26, 2017 in Italy, immersed in the language with weekly language and dictions courses, two 45-minute private voice lessons per week, and weekly acting courses, dramatic and vocal coachings, and weekly master classes with the faculty and other guest clinicians.

In addition to developing my language, acting, and vocal abilities, I’ll also make connections with leading industry artists and teachers who can be instrumental in securing future professional employment.

This summer program provides a process-based curriculum with opportunities to perform in 4 recitals around Italy gaining hands-on performance experience that will hone my craft and help me prepare for upcoming graduate school auditions in the fall semester of 2017.

Program tuition is $3,950, plus $3,000 for meals and travel expenses.

I have received a $600 talent scholarship from the program.   I anticipate being able to earn $1,000 through work-study jobs at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory and from numerous freelance performance engagements. Your contribution of any amount will help me reach my fundraising goal of $5,350 necessary to attend the program.
