Logan medical bills

$10,748 of $15,000 goal

I want to thank all of you who have given so far. That money went a long way towards paying Logan's medical bills, for his PHYSICAL illness.

Unfortunately, my son Logan didn't just inherit my physical issues -- he inherited my depression issues as well. He has been on antidepressants for almost two years now. Nothing seems to help.

His psychiatrist has recommended something called Trans-cranial magnetic stimulation (check out the Wikipedia page on it here, if you want). This is for people with "treatment-resistant" depression -- in other words, if meds don't help, this does.

Two bottom lines here:

One, it has a high success rate.

Two, it's very, very expensive, even with insurance. It will end up costing us around $4,000 -- and it's a very, very rigid payment plan: $800 a month, starting THIS WEEK.

I hate to ask for help -- I really do. But this is for my son. He doesn't deserve to have to deal with this.

I need to reach the goal of $10,500 in order to pay for this. The $6500 given so far has gone towards the medical bills for his physical illness.

Thanks in advance. I'm always amazed by the generosity of my friends, and of this community.

I have some great news!

As you all probably know, Logan inherited my chronic pain and the many things that come with it, AND he inherited my depression.

As a parent, I don't want him to have to go through either of those. That said, it was actually much harder to watch him have to deal with the depression than the physical pain. If you've suffered from deep depression, then I'm sure you know what I mean.

For two years we tried various medications for his depression. Nothing seemed to work. He was losing hope. He was thinking that he couldn't live the rest of his life like that.

There are no words to convey the hopelessness and sadness that I felt, the frustration at not being able to protect my son from this.

Then, his psychiatrist recommended TMS ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transcranial_magnetic_stimulation). We have insurance, but even so, it was insanely expensive. We knew we could not afford it.

And that's where you folks came in. You helped us to pay for the TMS and for some of the other medical bills.

So here's the good news: it actually worked. It took several months, but it worked. Four months ago, he was depressed almost every day. Deeply depressed.

But now, a bad day is the exception, not the rule. He is doing so well. The TMS actually worked, and I have my son back. I'm sitting here typing with a full heart, trying to convey how happy this makes me, and I just don't have the words.

YOU did that. You funded this. I can't thank you enough.

Yes, he still has to deal with the chronic pain and all that comes with this particular illness, but now he has the will to fight it. We have more challenges ahead, but I know we will overcome them.

There are some wonderful people in this world. If you're reading this, you're one of them. Thank you.

Mike

P.S. We still have a lot of medical bills to pay. It's insane how expensive health care is, even with insurance. If you have an extra buck or two, it's appreciated -- but if you don't, that's fine too, because you've already made me a very happy Dad.

THANK YOU.

Thanks to all of you for making my son's treatment possible. I wish -- truly -- that I could scroll down through each donation and send you all a personal note.

My son means everything to me, and you folks have made a key treatment for him possible.

I just wanted to let you know that he's roughly halfway through the TMS treatment, and slowly but surely we are seeing positive changes. And again, it's all thanks to you folks.

We're not there yet, but we are a hell of a lot closer than we would be without you.

I wish the best for all of you. And I'll keep you posted.

It's hard to find the time to update -- but I owe it to all of you. First of all, thank you, again, for your kindness and your help.

My son had a doctor appointment today; he has another one tomorrow in a town about an hour away; and on Wednesday, another doctor appointment in Dallas, about two hours away. Kind of a typical week around here.

Even with insurance, these visits cost money -- copay -- so again, thank you for the help.

My goal is to thank all of you personally with a note. I may be slow to do that, but I will try. In the meantime, please know that you are appreciated, and that you've made a dark time better.
