David's Journey

I am putting this campaign together for an incredible family that is always, always, always putting everyone first and going above and beyond to help others. When my son was born and spent the first month of his life in the NICU Angela, Warren, Cheyenne and David took care of my husband and 4 other kids when I couldn't be home with them. They set up a meal train and fed my family night after night plus so much more. They were our Angel's in a very hard time. I know that my family is not the only one that has been on the receiving end of their love and kindness. They now need Angel's of their own and that is where we can come in. Right now they are dealing with the unknown.

How do you plan for the unplannable? How do you move forward when you are in limbo?  As a parent how can you process the unthinkable?

A little bit about David:
David is a funny, curious, creative, inventive and hardworking 13 year old kid. He loves to play online games with friends and spends hours building structures in Minecraft. His favourite things to do are create vehicles out of Lego, play with Nerf guns, visit his friends and collect Pokemon cards. He is facing this journey with grace, strength, determination and bravery that is beyond his years.

Reason why:
David and his family live in the small rural town of Clearwater and all of their medical appointments have been in Kamloops which is over an hour away. Now appointments will be in Vancouver with the possibility of long term stays. It is hard enough to hold things together financially when you live in a city with all your resources available right at your finger tips. Then add on the fact that you have to travel for every single appointment. Makes an impossible situation that much more. Warren still needs to work which means additional travel on weekends so he can see his son. Costs can add up quickly for each trip, even to the ones in Kamloops. Accommodations, food, gas, medical equipment (ex: crutches), medication and for anything else that is required. Financially they have already been pushed beyond their means and need our help. If we can ease the financial strain and worry they can channel all of their focus on their son where it should be. Let's hold them up, rally together and give one of the most deserving families I know an amazing gift of love. We appreciate anything you can contribute. Whether it is monetary, a prayer or sharing his story. The appreciation and gratitude is more than we could ever express.

The journey's beginning:
David, their youngest child, started having what was thought of as growing pains. They went away a little over a month ago except for in one place just above his right knee. The pain was constant and was so bad it interrupted his sleep. Tylenol and Advil didn't work. Angela took David to the doctor on October 22nd who ordered an x-ray. It was revealed at the follow up appointment on the 25th that there was an abnormality so the doctor ordered an MRI. The call came the following morning from Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops to schedule the MRI for November 1st. After the MRI they were told to come back the next day to meet with the Orthopedic Surgeon in Kamloops. At his appointment, the surgeon wanted to compare his 2 femur's so he was sent for an x-ray. Once that was done the Orthopedic Surgeon gave them two likely scenarios. The first being an infection, the second was a tumour. He thinks that it is most likely not an infection since there is no other symptoms or indications of one. He didn't want to speculate that if it is a tumour whether it was benign or malignant. He ordered another MRI which happened on November 9th. This one is for the specific area affected. He also ordered a CT scan of David's upper body to look for tumours in his chest and lungs which happened on November 16th. Those are the likely spots for metastasized tumours to appear first. Lastly he ordered a bone scan scheduled for November 20th. They injected a radioactive dye into David and let it circulate for a couple of hours. Tumors soak it in and they show up as bright spots on the scan. At the follow up appointment was revealed that David's tests showed that he only has a localized problem in his right femur. The rest of his body is clear.

This now brings him to being referred to a specialist in Vancouver where they will need to do a biopsy and possibly further testing. We will keep you updated throughout it all. Please join us on Facebook: David's Journey
