Davidson Family Trust

$62,525 of $189,000 goal

Raised by 8 people in 8 months
We are the Davidson family originally from Elphin, Ontario, Canada (Mark and Rita and our 4 boys, 3 with autism) We lost our home, business, and van that was burnt to the ground in a devastating fire July 19th, 2013. We had no insurance, (not our choice) and lost our business as well.  Costs estimated at over -$750,000 lost.  We are trying to raise $189,000 the cost of replacing our home (not including our van and business lost). Our home was paid off, as was all our equipment for printing. After 6 months homeless, and 10 months in a 600 Sq foot trailer we had to get a debt of a double-mortage of -$160,000 to get a house. Just 2 years later, we were spending money to replace covered up rotten windows, solve ongoing humidity issues causing mold, and now with my elderly mother with dementia living with us, we realized this house is not large enough (1100 sq feet for 7 of us) for our boys special needs. Its been a long, stressful 4 years for us all. As of 2017, Our business still needs to be rebuilt. We have hard-drives holding our business and personal files including the last of our memories and baby photo's that need salvaging. 7 Boxes remain of our life of photos, and rare documents still in need restoring. Life has been so busy fixing this house, taking care of our boys, my elderly mother, we have not had time to get done what we need to. For 2017 we need to repair, restore, enlarge

or find our final "home" so we can finally REST and see smiles back on our boys faces?

It's planting time here! We just ordered our new windows to start the process of mold removal and window replacements. We began two weeks ago but had to quickly stop as the mold was worse then first thought. So now have a few weeks to wait until they arrive. PRAYERS please! Now getting quotes on repair and renovation work in hopes of completing this this year. It's so hard to understand how tired we are from this taking so long. (I'm quite sure you are tired of hearing from us too?) but this July 19th will be our 5th anniversary and we so much want to be able to say "ALL DONE" this year... so PLEASE pray for us, and PLEASE SHARE this page with your friends, family, Church's or handyman friends...and PLEASE donate. We can't thank you enough and can't wait to write all your names on our walls here to remember you by. God bless you, <3

It's been a while since an update but it's Mary 2018 already. Tomorrow we are opening up all the windows under containment to remove the mold. It's a stressful time for the boys with all the changes. Please pray for us. Today was a test to assess the air leakage from the house, we will get the report soon. I can't believe how long this is taking us since our fire. Thank you for your kindness ! :) Please support us with your donations to help us cover the cost of all these mold repairs and renovations needed to get this house safe for our family. Thank you <3

+We need your help. In 2013 we lost our home, business and van in a fire and barely got out alive with our 4 boys, three disabled with autism. We had no insurance. We were homeless and moved 6 times in six months til we purchased this smaller house (1600 sq feet) with hopes of expanding it. All this moving was hard on our boys. Within the first year we moved in my elderly mother with dementia as well. With 7 of us it is very cramped.
We moved here in November 2014, and the first winter we began dealing with humidity then mold issues. We contracted a mold expert, George White, out of Ottawa, June 2015 who has been helping us improve the mold situation.
We covered the crawl space with plastic in crawl space, removed carpet on first floor and installed hardwood. We noticed one windowsill soft and decided to open it up October 2016. The rot was a foot deep on both sides. Soon after we seen health issues begin in our special needs boys.
This past summer I contracted Lyme disease and Bell’s palsy in my face. I was on antibiotics since September 2017 including a PICC line IV. In my battle to rid myself of Lyme, I’ve been told, our mold is complicating my recovery. The mold is keeping my face paralyzed. We have been told we need to get rid of the mold or should move. We tried to move last year and had an offer on our house til our bank refused to finance our mortgage so we are stuck here. It’s been four years since our fire, and we have not had a day of rest from all the moving, then the repairs on this house that were not expected and now health problems.
We have a mold remediator carpenter, Richard Buchanan, out of Carleton Place that has assessed our house and so far, it needs:
• Spray Foam our basement headers
• Spray Foam our basement
• (possibly) dig and tar our basement walls
• Remove 15 windows under containment and replace.
• Remove mold on walls under containment
• Install HRV system to remove humidity
• Expand living areas for adequate living space.
• Remove and replace moldy fridge
• Air filters to improve air quality

We have our Trust fund we are still trying to fundraise.

We need materials, design help and labourers to help us accomplish this. I am exhausted by how complicated this has become and now the fatigue from my bad health and just want to get our home healthy to live in and large enough for all our families needs. Is there is anything you can do to help us? Donations, Resources, Materials, funding, people? We would be so grateful.

Waiting to hear from you,
Rita & Mark Davidson
