David Needs A Cochlear Implant

$155 of $60,000 goal

More and more people are getting cochlear implants in both ears. Bilateral implants allow users to better determine where sounds are coming from (localize) and to hear better in noisy situations (in restaurants, at professional conferences, at school). Users report better sound awareness and richer hearing with three-dimensional quality.

By contributing to this campaign listed below, you'll help ensure that my work continues. Online donations are quick and easy using our secure credit card transactions. We welcome donations of all sizes and payment plans – whether it's a one-time gift, a monthly contribution.

If you're  deaf, a cochlear implant may help you get back the sounds you miss out on.

It isn't a hearing aid, which makes sounds louder. It’s a small device that a doctor puts in your ear through surgery. It sends impulses directly to your auditory nerve, which carries sound signals to your brain.

The cochlear implant doesn't make you hear normally again, but it can help you with sounds. Most people with severe to profound hearing loss can understand speech in person or over the phone better than they did with a hearing aid. It can usually help you know sounds around you, including telephones, doorbells, and alarms. Many people also can pick up on speech in noisy places better than they did with hearing aids, or even enjoy music again.

You can help Me get a cochlear implant which cost $60,000 plus (up to $100,000 via post op and rehab).

Your support is key in solving this problem, as my insurance will not cover the surgery or a new device for my left ear.

Are you unsure how a hearing implant works? There are two components to a Cochlear™ Nucleus® System – the external sound processor and the hearing implant. The implant is connected to an electrode that is inserted into the inner ear. The sound signals are picked up by the external sound processor and sent to the electrode in the hearing nerve (inner ear).

For many people hearing implants can:

Give you access to the sounds you’re missing

Alabama Medicaid told my doctor do the surgery then they will decide if they will pay it, leaving me risking a $60,000 debt as they will not make a predetirmination for my Cochlear Implant Surgery or Device for my left ear. They are also refusing a denal letter because they so called did not offically deny the claim.

Thank you all for your support and for forwarding my campaign on to others!

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), informally known as Obamacare, is a lengthy piece of legislature that can be very difficult to sort through. To simplify it, there are 8 main facts that you should know about the ACA and how it will affect your hearing healthcare.
Having health insurance through the marketplace does not guarantee hearing health coverages.
Even though no one can be denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition, it does not mean that every service is covered. The person with hearing loss can not be denied health insurance coverage, but that does not mean that their hearing aids or cochlear implantation will be covered. Having health insurance isn’t a guarantee for coverage of specific services.
At this time, there is no Federal coverage for hearing aids or cochlear implants under Medicare, Medicaid, or any mandate that requires private insurers to provide hearing aid coverage. There has been no change in this with the introduction of the Affordable Care Act. Although the federal health care act does not require any hearing aid coverage by insurers, some individual state laws may. In Alabama it is not covered.
