Passing of Professor David Moglen

On Thursday, July 28, 2016, David Moglen, a part-time professor of Economics at Evergreen Valley College was tragically killed after chasing a man who had just robbed him in San Jose, CA.  David died at the scene and the killer remains unidentified. David taught Economics at EVC for 12 years, during which time he had a profound impact on the lives of many students as well as his peers and colleagues across campus. Those who knew him best speak fondly of his abilities as a dedicated and compassionate instructor, and the care and respect with which he treated students.

EVC is a tight-knit community, and news of this nature has a profound impact on our campus.   Unfortunately, while full-time employees have access to insurance benefits in the event of death, there are no such insurance benefits for part-time employees at a tragic time like this.  To honor David’s memory, a campaign was created to support his family during this extremely difficult time.

As a dedicated husband and father, David was also a part-time Economics instructor at Foothill College, and a musician, all to support his family.  He leaves behind two beautiful daughters, a wife, two brothers, his father, a sister and brother-in-law, and two nephews. David’s daughters, Nina is 9, and Emily, 5.  Trang, David’s wife, has been a full-time mom, fully devoted to their children, and supporting her husband’s professional career.
