David Counceller Stroke Recovery

$4,590 of $15,000 goal

Raised by 61 people in 8 days
On Wednesday October 3rd, our dad, David Counceller had a hemorrhagic stroke. This is when a ruptured blood vessel causes bleeding in the brain. He was medevaced to Indianapolis because the bleeding was not stopping. Fortunately it did eventually stop before brain surgery was necessary.
At this point he is still hospitalized. The stroke has left him with serious speech problems and also impaired use of his right hand.
His recovery is going to be a long haul that includes a lot of speech, occupational, and physical therapy. We are still unsure at this point of how much he will regain from this brain trauma, but we remain optimistic.
David Counceller is a wonderful man. He has had a career serving his community as a law enforcement officer and police chief. He is a charismatic person who is used to being on the other side of situations like this... he is a helper, a caring person who has reached out and helped so many in his lifetime.
The last thing I want is for my dad to worry about anything right now. I want him to rest and rehabilitate. Donations made to this fund will go to help Dave now, and in the future as he faces recovery from this difficult trauma.
Thank you so much.

Alright, so Dad has been moved to a rehabilitation facility. Let the aggressive therapy begin. Every day he will have physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. He is doing really well and maintaining a positive attitude.
I want to thank everyone who has been keeping my dad in your thoughts and prayers. What a wonderful community of friends and family he has!

Wed Oct 10 Update...
Moving to an acute rehabilitation unit is on the horizon, but as of this morning my dad is still in the hospital. Speech and Occupational Therapy are going to be part of his everyday routine. Progress will be slow, but with his stubborn independent attitude, it will be made. His sense of humor is in tact and he is anxious to get moving forward on the aggressive therapy. While I know many are wanting to see him, we are requesting very limited visitors at this time. He really needs rest, and to many visitors really wear him out. I will let you know when there is a green light to drop in and visit.

Monday Update....
Dad is still in the hospital today. We are actively working toward figuring out the next step. An acute rehabilitation facility is probably where he is heading. However, we do not have any timelines or confirmed plans.
My favorite report of the day is that he is smiling a lot more! His attitude is really good and he is anxious to move forward with the upcoming therapies.
Once again, thank you for all the continued support , thoughts and prayers.

Sunday update...
Dad is still in the hospital today. He is tired. He says it is hard to get good sleep because they wake you up so much. He is starting to eat soft food, swallowing is difficult. Communication is slow, requires patience. His attitude is good. He is strong and a fighter.
Therapies are starting, so they will weigh in on what should happen next.
Thank you all for you continued prayers and donations.
