Dave Lanspeary; a name you may or may not know but if you are in the automotive field you owe Dave a debt of gratitude. Dave has been an advocate for the auto trade for 30+ years and has been instrumental in helping to make available things like factory scan tools and information. In fact if not for Dave’s efforts back in 1998-2000 the independent car repair market would probably be almost non-existent today, because OEM dealers would have taken over the market.
As recently as a few months ago Dave has been fighting battles with the government and vehicle manufacturers to make sure all in the automotive trade continued to have the same opportunities to compete against the OEM dealers. Unknown to most of us he has also been fighting a private battle, with cancer.
Unlike vehicle manufacturers or government officials, cancer does not listen to reason, it cannot be convinced that what it is doing is wrong and cannot be argued with so that it stands down. Its path is one of taking; it starts taking one’s time; then wellbeing and ultimately one’s life. If that wasn’t bad enough cancer impacts personal finances and the finances of our loved one’s family as the faults in our insurance system are found. It truly seems that cancer’s goal is to drain its victim and their family completely and in every way possible.
Rarely in life will you have an opportunity to give a small token of appreciation to someone whom has given so much to you. This is one of those opportunities.
