Dashawn Horne was assaulted in a brutal manner this past Friday night, January 20, 2018. He was an innocent victim of a heinous crime.  The doctors say that he has a long road ahead towards recovery, he will be in intensive care for at least a month before transferring to a neurology unit for another month with the expectation of eventaully being transferred to a rehabilitation center for up to six months.  Dashawn is an amazing father brother, son and friend to many of you. He is funny, loving, strong, hard working clerk for the United States Postal Service.  Dashawn loves to make people laugh and feel protected.  His personality and presence lights up a room. His love and compassion has impacted many lives. Currently Dashawn is in critical condition but improving everyday. Despite the circumstances any help would be greatly appreciated due to the loss of wages and the support needed for his young son.  We are praying for Dashawn to have a full recovery and we are encouraged by all of your support.

A Good afternoon to all and I pray that this Sunday is bringing you relaxation and peace after a long week of work. Here we are on day 29 of DaShawn’s hospitalization, he is still in the ICU with a heart rate of 102 currently, blood pressure 111/64 he’s breathing spontaneously 100% on his own.
He’s about to have another minor surgery performed to clear out fluids from his lungs it is called:

“Tube thoracostomy is the insertion of a tube (chest tube) into the pleural cavity to drain air, blood, bile, pus, or other fluids. [5] Whether the accumulation of air or fluid is the result of rapid traumatic filling with air or blood or an insidious malignant exudative fluid, placement of a chest tube allows for continuous, large volume drainage until the underlying pathology can be more formally addressed.”

The procedure shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes and it will clear the fluids that still remain in his lung and that is holding him back from recovering at a more rapid rate.

Please continue to lift DaShawn up in your prayers and stay tuned for more information as it becomes available!

Thank you to all whom shared pictures, his poster of support is coming along quite well.

A Good morning all Supporters, thanks for checking in on my nephews progress and for all the continued support. So here is the latest, the doctors did an X-ray on DaShawn and found fluid on the outside of his lungs, they are working on draining the fluids by medicating that specifically. They noticed that his breathing was abnormal with him breathing approximately 60 bpm when it should be in a 20-40 range. They checked for other infections and they all came back negative, he will have his brain scanned tomorrow morning so they can determine when they will be able to replace the part of his skull that was removed to alleviate the brain swelling.
He is progressing well, they aren’t concerned about any set backs, slow and steady but progress by any means. Please do me a favor and add your friends by clicking the “add” options as shown in the picture below. We will be setting up events in the near future and I am counting on you all to share the updates as they become available.

Thanks and God bless.

Sitting by my nephews side on a daily basis watching his temperature, blood pressure, breaths per minute and heart rate go up and down is like a teeter totter emotionally for my family. Trying to will him into a breakthrough and looking for small signs of improvement keeps you up throughout the night and wake you from the little sleep you are able to scrounge up. Seeing him open his eyes is painful at times when you realize that he generally opens them only when he is “storming” battling the fight or flight response that those tremors send through his whole being. I just want him to respond to the conversations that his mom, brother, sister, me and his aunties have with him. I want him to say Amen as we pray over him throughout the course of our visits.

I know he hears me, I know he hears us, I know that our faith and undying unyielding love will pull him through. When I look at him I see my little Shawny whom I always adored. My little brother that became my son than my friend. I remember teaching him how to swim at the YMCA in Vancouver, I remember taking him fishing with Taylor Smith at Westport, I remember us camping and getting scared of the raccoons that laughed at us throughout the night, I remember playing basketball with him in front of my sisters Karen Horne and LaDonna Horne duplex on the basketball hoop I bought him, Obediyah-Ira Ben Israel and Glenn Lambert. I remember watching him score a touchdown on his first carry half time of the Seahawks and Eagles game at Qwest field.
And I remember him baby sitting my kids Jasmine King and Nasir King as they were babies protecting, feeding, playing and teaching them right from wrong. I remember watching him ride on the roller coaster with my wife Alana King and laughing at his brother as he nearly threw up. I remember him reading his paper on the Federal Way proposed curfew that he won first prize in a AVID written essay contest in a room full of Federal Way residents with the confidence of Malcolm X.
I remember him sacking the quarterback in high school games as a Federal Way all SPSL linebacker and I remember him loving and protecting his mother and son Deion. And this is going back in the timeline but I remember him being in EACAP at Federal Way High School back in 1997 when he was around five years old and he was the only kid in the class that could spell not only his name but EVERY kid in the class name as well.
I remember his long winded stories and love for me, he use to model everything I did, if I told him a story about losing my virginity at a certain age he wanted to do so too, if I told him I took certain classes in high school he did so too. He is my shining prince and my ultimate warrior of a nephew.
He has been training for this unforeseen battle and he is prepared to fight it blow for blow until he is left standing with his fist in air like Muhammad Ali. God has got him and he is remolding him in his image. Keep DaShawn in your nightly prayers and continue to love one another and show support the best way that suits you. As my mom Jacqueline Horne always used to say when me and Rhonda King and Monica Searcy would watch her testify in church “I feel good...” DaShawn will come out of the hospital 2.0 a more refined version of his old self.
